Edison Giocattoli Lancia Lince 1/43 too small?

Last edited by 91ken : 03-12-2008 at 05:31 AM. Reason: grammar
I recently bought three Edison Giocattoli models: the Italian Sahariana, the Trattore and the Lancia Lince. I was wondering whether anyone else who has bought the Lancia noticed it's very small size, despite it's supposedly 1/43 scale. I don't have my models accessible right now or I would take a picture, but placed side-by-side, there is a striking difference in size in the Lancia compared to the other two. Shortly after I bought these (internet retail), I also put my 1/43 JFK limo, which has figures included, next to these three and there is no way one of those figures could fit inside the Lancia. It is just too tiny.

I know scales are not always perfect, but the Lancia model is really, really small compared to all my other 1/43 models. It's almost as small as a matchbox model. Here's a page on ebay that shows all three, although the small size of the Lancia is not apparent.

So, anyone else notice this and know the reason for it?

Here's a picture of the Lancia armored car:

I have a few of the Edison's myself but not this one, but looks cool.. Maybe it's for the "little people" or formally known as migets, dwarfs, ankle-biters, SKUNKY, etc.

Re: Edison Giocattoli Lancia Lince 1/43 too small?

OK, I got the models and took some pictures to try to illustrate the small size of the (supposedly) 1/43 Lancia Lince. All of these models are 1/43.

This first picture is a little misleading because the Lancia is in the foreground, making it appear slightly bigger. It still looks small though, especially compared to the Sahariana:

This side-by-side picture is somewhat better. I don't see how those 1/43 figures could fit inside that supposedly 1/43 armored car. Does anyone know how many crew were in the Lancia? I suspect two at minimum, maybe as many as four?

This picture best shows off the difference in size. As I said previously, the Lancia is almost as small as a matchbox, while the Sahariana on the far right looks huge:

All that having been said, it's a nice model - but then, all of them are. ;-)

Here's a picture of the Lancia armored car:

Here's what I dug up online under Italian Armored Cars of WW II. The Lancia had a crew of 2. Its length was 10feet, 6 inches; width was 5feet, 8 inches and height was 5feet, 4inches. By way of contrast, the Sahariana had a crew of 2-3. Its length was 18 feet, 10 inches; width was 7 feet and height was 6 feet. Lastly, the Autoblinda had a crew of 4. Its length was 17 feet, 1 inch; its width was 6 feet, four inches and its height, depending on the mark, was about 8 feet. Based on this, the Lancia was indeed a much smaller AC.

Is it possible that the Lancia is 1/48 and Not 1/43??

With the Lancia armored car having a length of 10ft 6in in 1/43 scale it should be 2.93 inches and if it is 1/48th scale it should be 2.63 inches. Hopefully this helps you narrow it down.

I like the Italian armored car in the back! Nice looking models.

Thanks for that info. Heck, the thing wasn't much bigger than a VW. I stand 6'2" and I can look over the cab of my pickup. At 5'4", the Lancia would've barely been as high as my pickup. 10'6" long? That's about VW size.
The thing was tiny - and the Edison model is correct.
Wow. Looking at it, I would've thought the height would surely be above my head, ie, higher than 6'2". Where did they find room for the armor? How was anyone able to squeeze into those small hatches on the side?
