Schuco Willys Jeep 1/72

I think this one is worth a explicit recommendation.
Schuco/Cararama/Hongwell makes a GREAT classic jeep in 1/72. The quality is overwhelming considering the price (€2,00 to 3,00). Clear headlights, seats, gearshift, clear windshield (moveable) and note that painted windscreen wipers! Nice details everywhere. Even the black tires are seperate parts. The only minus is the grille, it's only a decal.
Here in Germany these are distributed by Schuco. There are six olive variants which only differ in markings, and a plain tan version. There are other variants, a light blue Navy version and some more, but these are not available here (yet).
As Schuco also makes 1/43 jeeps with trailers and 1/43 Kübelwagen, and recently they also sell these 1/43 military vehicle line under the Schuco label, I hope we'll see other light military vehicles in this series.
And here is..the picture! I made a little diorama, but they come in a small plexi box on a black base.

Looks pretty nice, might have to look at picking a couple up to put with my aircraft.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Yes, the Schuco/Cararama/Hongwell jeeps are very nice and I agree with the description gave by Mr Rubberduck.
I have all the colors variants of this little jeep and I'm very pleased with them, using some next to my warbirds...
I hope too that this maker will continue to give us some ground military vehicules in 1/72 scale (similar to those that we can find in plastic offers) but in diecast !!
If anyone have information...

There's a huge market for soft skinned 1/72 vehicles suitable for dioramas, maybe Admiral will fix us up.

Re: Schuco Willys Jeep 1/72

I sent an email to Hongwell 6 months ago suggesting ways in which they could please us 1.72 Military model collectors. They did not respond. I suggested half-tracks and softskins would fit right in there with their existing range of cars ( some of which are vintage types ). I was not even given a courteous reply/aknowledgement which would have been the reaction of any normal company which wished to keep customers happy!

My best guess is that the Hongwell group are not really geared up for customer feedback.

I loved the jeep and bought about 20 of them ( £1.00 each in the U.K. ) so that I could distress and weather some of them to fit in with my existing 1.72 models and die-casts. Admiral, by comparison, is a forward-looking company which seems to welcome customer feedback and suggestions. They are slating the release of some U.S. artillery as well as German 88s and figure sets....in response to demand from ' out there '!

I would try that avenue before I braved the trial of contacting Hongwell!

Good Luck!

MoMo.

These are very good little models, and cheap!
They are widely available here in NZ, at least in the diecast model stores I've seen around.
Hongwell/Caramarama also do a number of Land Rover variants in 1/72. The jeeps can be further modified by including 'US Army driver' figures in 1/76 scale made by MMS Models of the UK.

Re: Schuco Willys Jeep 1/72

They're very nice, I have several and plan on converting some. I don't know too much about jeeps but heard the front end is the civilian version and not the military version.
