| 1:72 Scale - FORGET Dioramas! I was reading about the Challenger tank and found that it has the distinction of the longest range tank-to-tank kill in military history, destroying an Iraqi tank at a range of 2.5 miles (4 km). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Challenger_1_tank. This got me to think about what it would take to create a diorama illustrating this kill in 1:72 scale. So here are my calculations: 2.5 miles = 13200 feet. Divide 13200 by 72 to get the distance in 1:72 scale, so 13200 / 72 = 183 feet in 1:72 scale or 61 yards in 1:72 scale. So for me to recreate this diorama, I'll put the 1:72 Dragon Challenger Tank on the goal line of my local football field and run 61 yards to put down the other tank (maybe a 1:72 Forces of Valor T-72). It sure gives me a new perspective on the distances that these tanks are capable of. Do any of you want to figure out some 1:72 distances for other notable tank battles? | |||||||||||||

| Re: 1:72 Scale - FORGET Dioramas! Well, for those airmen among us, this is a big problem. A standard WWII fighter runway might be as short as 5,000 to 6,000 feet (or about 70 feet long if reproduced in 1/72 scale), and a runway at a modern international airport might be as long as 18,000 feet (or about 45 feet long if accurately modelled in 1/400 scale!). | |||||||||||||

In a word,.... No. Don't have a great big backyard. But your figures are interesting. | ||||||||||||||
