New 1/72 Modern Wargame w/Armor & Figs

Stopped by my local hobby shop today. Picked up the new MRC/Trumpter Easy Model Challengers and he had some new, interesting stuff.

Battlefield Evolution by Mongoose Publishing
It's a wargame with VERY basic rules set in the "near future". They had tanks (M1 Abrams, Challenger and a Chinese PLA Type 98) and figures (USMC Infantry, British Infantry, PLA Infantry and Middle East insurgents).

The tanks are no where NEAR as good as the MRC/Trumpeter offerings. I would probably rank them with (or just under) Altaya/IXO tanks, but the dimensions looked pretty close to spot on (or at least the BE Challenger was almost the same as the MRC/Trumpter Challenger).

The infantry were pretty nice. 8-10 figures per pack, prepainted, in a variety of poses. The PLA infantry set actually has 11 figs - 8 troopers with assault rifles, two Anti-Tank troopers and one machinegunner. The British set has 8 figures - 6 troopers with assault rifles and 2 with machineguns.

I passed on the tanks and picked up a couple of figure sets and the Brits look pretty good next to my new Challengers.

Re: New 1/72 Modern Wargame w/Armor & Figs

There's also another post about these 2 threads down. According to their website they're a little larger than 1/72 scale, though I've yet to see any personally.

If you have a digital camera, take some pictures of those figures next to a diecast tank for comparison if you get a chance. Would be good to see how well they match up, especially since the figures are already painted.

LegioLXXll,

this is the stuff which I posted last week on New Mongoose Tanks/Figs etc.
There are pics on that thread which I got from their site. The figs are well over 1.72. I would say that they are about 1.64. Don't know about the tanks, which are made of resin and are cast, I think.

Re: New 1/72 Modern Wargame w/Armor & Figs

I will post some pics with the figures next to a Dragon/MRC tank and next to some Italeri 1/72 figures.

The vehicles looked pretty close to 1/72 (at least when I held the MRC Challenger up next to the Mongoose Challenger), but the figures look a little big. Not 1/50th certainly, but maybe 1/64th...

The Brit infantry look OK next to either my Dragon or my MRC Challenger, IMHO...

Pics this weekend (left the camera at work, so I have to go in and fetch it...)

Re: New 1/72 Modern Wargame w/Armor & Figs

These are the pics from the other thread. I looked at the fig sets when I was in town today. In the UK they are priced at £20 for the figs, £15 for the armour.

Brits

Marines ( US )

Insurgents ( MEA )

PLA ( ? )

Re: New 1/72 Modern Wargame w/Armor & Figs

Some more pics from the Mongoose site. I had a really good look at the figs in the shop. They are about 1.64, as I suggested, even allowing for the substantial wargamming base on each one. Because the armour used in Iraq is so huge, I think that most of you would be quite happy to ingore the size problem here, and just be happy to have some modern figs. They would not mix well with any other figs which were 1.72 though.

However at £20 a figure set, you've got to be rich and lazy to take the chance that you'll be happy with them.

Question Re: New 1/72 Modern Wargame w/Armor & Figs

The figures look quite good. Nothing from WWII?

That's a M1A2 with a TUSK on it. I haven't seen that yet in diecast.
