New Mongoose Tanks and Troops

I found some of these when I was visiting one of the shops which I go to to search for new Dragons. The figures seem to be about just slightly bigger than 1.72, as do the AFVs.

The AFVs seem to be resin. All the figure sets are prepainted! Some interesting possibilities.

Look up the site under " Mongoose Publishing " and click on " Battlefield Evolution " to view.

Re: New Mongoose Tanks and Troops

Interesting stuff. On their forum it says they're 28mm which is about 1/58 scale. They have a whole rule set that can be used for their figure and tank range.

Re: New Mongoose Tanks and Troops

Pretty nice looking stuff. Kind of reminds me of those Corgi prepainted modern vehicle and soldier sets that were out a few years ago. I think they were about 1/50 too.

Re: New Mongoose Tanks and Troops

OK, I got out my calipers. I have some Battlefield Evolution British figures and some Italieri Vietnam 1/72 Marines.

The Battlefield Evolution figures are 1.28125 (1 9/32") tall on a 0.125" (1/8") base, so they are 1.15625" (1 1/32")

An Italeri figure (from the Vietnam 1/72 scale US Marine set) is 1.0937 (1 3/32") tall on a 0.0625") (2/32") base, so they are 1.03115" tall (1 3/64" tall).

So, if you take the Battlefield Evolution figure and an Italirei Vietnam 1/72 US Marine and put them on the same size base, they would be 1/64" difference in height...

So, I feel pretty good about using my BE British figures alongside my Hobby Master Challenger.

Re: New Mongoose Tanks and Troops

Thanks, Gunner,

it looks as if you've proved that the figures are nearer to 1.72 than it seems from looking at them in the box.

The fact that they're designed for war-game use, and therefore mounted on a playing piece base, makes them seem taller than the conventional 1.72 figure.

I feel though that the issue with most collectors will still be the price. For a set of painted figures the price is £20.00. This works out at £ 2.50 per figure in a set of eight. I suppose that this isn't too bad when you consider the time which you have to devote when you paint just one. Therefore, if you want a set of modern, in fact post-modern ( since they are supposed to represent a future war! ), figures then this is the set for some!

Certainly, from the traffic which the forum receives asking for painted figures, this could be the answer to those who have been requesting painted figures to go with their modern AFVs.

Nice looking models. Is that weathering on the tanks?

Re: New Mongoose Tanks and Troops

Yes ZS.

The tanks appear to be made of resin, and they look the part. The problem is that they do look resinous and therefore a bit light in nature. Not the impression of metal or weight!

Hey MoMo, If these are resin, then they will be pretty HEAVY, about like a paperweight.. They are interesting though and of a subject we don't see everyday..
