Stands for P40's

Has anyone sucessfully found a stand for the P40??

I've tried the Corgi 1/32 hurricane and spit stands but both are far to big. I wonder if any of the 1/72 bomber stands would fit???

Ooops!

I use an acrylic stand made by FlexiDisplay. The stands consist of a thick acrylic base with three acylic rods tipped with rubber pads. The rods are seated in a ball-joint arrangement so you can display model at different angles. They come in three sizes - I have mine sitting on the smallest due to the weight of the GMP model. I really like these.

Where can you pick those up? How much do they cost?

Re: Stands for P40's

I have ordered these stands from two places

1) E-bay
2) Lost & Found Toys (laftoys.com)

The cost? Anyhwere from $12.00 to $20.00 depending on the size of the stands. I would stay away from the 6-inch stand for heavier models - a bit unstable. They seem to work fine for my 1:72 F-104s, though.

They come disassemebled, but putting them together is easy. A screwdriver and about two-minutes of your time. Word of caution --avoid the temptation to over-tighten the screws as you will either strip the acrylic threads or crack the base. When I stripped the threads I switched to an larger metal screw with some aggressive threads and seems to have done the trick.

Thanks for the information. I'm think I will get the shorter one for one of my GMP P40s and one taller one for my Carousel 1 Fw 190D13.

Re: Stands for P40's

I have used these too but only on my 21st Century planes since they are lighter...
Not sure if i would use a GMP on there...Over time that weight of the GMP may cause the legs to slip a little.

Re: Stands for P40's

Good point !! That is why for the heavier models I substituted the supplied machine bolts with slightly longer metal screws. They seem to provide more stability for the support rods. But as I said in the previous post - don't tighten too much or the base WILL split.

That P-40 in the phtograph has been in that position for over 6 months. And...I have a 1:32 HM SBD on the same type of stand (albeit w/ the screw modification) with no deflection observed.

The problem is with the longer stands. The weight coupled with the longer support rod decreases the moment of interia, or torque, or something like that. Yikes!! I just had a horrible flashback to structure class in engineering. Probably why I am a geologist.

I put my P40 on a Corgi 1/32 P51 stand and it looks o.k.

Re: Stands for P40's

Hopefully, the newly designed stand that HM is marketing for their SBD's will be usefull and adaptable for other 'heavy' diecast birds. I guess I'll have to test one once I get one.
