| Based on a knowledgable gent I spoke to who sells GMPs the latest two P-51s BBD and Marie may be their last crack at the aircraft market as they are a predominately diecast auto company. If they don't see the interest to justify the expense of production they will likely shelve the aircraft line. Too bad really but in many ways I think we've been a bit spoiled by the dumping of the first wave on the auction sites which make us less likely to pay full price - we aren't the Rockefellers after all. I am VERY happy to have paid less than $100 including shipping for my BBD and generally feel that is a bit closer to reasonable for these excellent models. Time will tell I guess...... |
I hope they don't throw in the towel -- I also think they would have much more success if they had an MSRP of $99, which I think is reasonable. I actually paid $140 delivered for my Texas Longhorn the first day it was out, and I knew it would come down in price -- just not as quickly as it has, and as low as it has

(kind of cheeses me...). Part of my reasoning was to "contribute to the cause" as I felt a bit guilty getting Cripes, Armada, Duchess, and Old Exterminator for an average of $60, delivered. Now you can do even better -- though at least the blue nosers seem to have sold out.
I would love to see them tackle at least one more subject (P-47 or 190) before pulling out... with a bit more aggressive pricing strategy.. and maybe some sort of price control efforts like we see with some of the other brands. The low prices now may be great for us short term, but long term... I don't think we'll see anyone else step in and bring us similar models should GMP go away. Corgi's already giving up on 1:32... our last hope for metal diecast in this scale looks like Hobby Master I guess (I don't like FOV, personally).
I agree with your theory on our being spoiled and not wanting to pay full price now though for future GMP product. I mean why? Odds are in a month or two vendors will be slashing prices by at least %30... I just got Marie and the Kittyhawk for $150 delivered... and I bet they'll be even cheaper in a month!
