| Which GMP P-40? Guys, i'm after some of your worldly advice on the subject of GMP's P-40's. I have Longhorn on the way & i'm bidding on Old Exterminator. I have room for one more.... Given a choice of either the Aleution Tiger's or Neville Duke's which would you choose based on looks, accuracy etc? Thanks in advance! | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Which GMP P-40? Now thats a difficult one, I am searching for the RAF one because of the history behind it and of course the RAF scheme looks cool but honestly they are all very good indeed so Just grab the best deal you can on either of them or even better get both and rotate your display. I need to find the RAF one at such a good price I can tell er indoors that I just had to buy it and look at how much I saved. | ||||||||||||||

Reason: added link & re-worded
thanks for that Jim, as a fellow P-40 fan I thought i'd share a link for a couple of Kiwi businesses based in Auckland that specialises in classic aircraft restoration - in particular P-40's. Other projects include a Mk.5 Spit recently, LA-9, P-51, Sea Fury, Yak 3 and others., including a Mosquito of which you can view progress photos in the second link. I have a friend who works at one (Avspecs) and still pinches himself each day when he goes to work, a great feeling to get paid to do what you love... Enjoy! | Re: Which GMP P-40? Jim Ingopher is selling them and at the moment i think ole customs man is too busy with the influx of parcels to get stopped. I just got my RAF P40 from the US for £57 and that inlcudes shipping as well as the chenault P40 for the same price. Hooray for busy customs.

| Re: Which GMP P-40? I just picked up my first "three", yes three, P-40s. The Aleutian Tiger - Texas Longhorn, and the 112th Squadron Kittyhawk. Now if you are wondering if I robbed a bank, nope. I found these on an auction site and paid a grand total of $170 for the lot - delivered. As far as a favorite - they are all outstanding!! Now if I could only find the Robert Scott version I'd be set. BTW - picked up the "Marie" P-51 for $66 from the same site. | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Which GMP P-40? As a follow up to this I did end up winning Old Exterminator & picked up the RAF bird. That makes 3 GMP P-51's and 3 P-40's & won't be buying more unless any great deals swing my way! | ||||||||||||||

Hello pilgrim, I managed to bag an RAF P40 for $59.99 off US ebay, YIPEEEEEEEEEEEE. The customs men must have been on a break because it slipped through, another YIPEEEEEEE. A very nice model and looks very smart in its desert livery. This one would be a perfect subject for the more gifted on the forum to give it a little weathering to take away the factory fresh look. They didnt stay looking fresh for long in the desert. I have tought about having a try myself but I fear my talents are somewhat lacking. It will sit in my display cabinet with the others and age quietly over the years.

Between ebay and gomotor there are plenty of great deals to be had, still -- and I would think prices will only start climbing in the next couple o' months with GMP stopping production of new liveries/molds... grab 'em while the grabbing's good! ![]()

Thanks for the link 11SQNLDR, They certainly do fine work down there, absolutely first class. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to all those that work so hard to bring these old ladies back to life. Wouldn't it be nice to see a Mossie back in the air again. I heard a whisper that the Aussies were looking into getting one back in the air but I havn't heard anything for a long while now. It was a tragic loss when the British based Mossie crashed, all down to needle in the carb being fitted wrong so I heard. Dreadful loss of two great pilots. I had been at Duxford the week before the Mossie crashed and had the good fortune to have a very close look at it. It flew over my house only 3 days before the crash.

| Re: Which GMP P-40? I'll keep everyone here posted as to the progress with the Mossie. I understand that Avspec's next project is the former Alpine Fighter Collection's Mk.XIV the one that Sir Tim Wallis nearly lost his life in. This remains my favourite warbird to have flown in NZ skies, a real show stopper & the sight of her, the Mk.XVI, the Sea Fury & Corsair having a pylon race around Wanaka airfield will always remain with me.. ![]() | ||||||||||||||
