Fairwell GMP

...It was fun while it lasted.

I spoke to Mark this morning and he said that it's now official that GMP is getting out of the airplane business. We were talking about my getting a couple more European dioramas. Evidently, they are out and they will not be making anymore. The same goes for their aircraft. I can't tell you how disappointed I am to here this. I was really hoping for a GMP Thunderbolt or Corsair, but it looks like they will never be.

If you know of a good source for Euro dioramas send me a PM.

There is only one place that i know of that still has 3 GMP Old Crows in stock
in Australia and that is it.....
So long GMP it was nice while it lasted.
Really wanted that Corsair too....

Well that sucks! I guess Rock Jock was right, I spoke to Roger weeks ago and he mentioned this to me. Good thing I ordered a GMP Pacific Dio from him that should be arriving today. I think I'm going to have to stockpile the GMP biirds now!

Re: Fairwell GMP

Too bad GMP bit the dust on that one...I hear TAPS is playing in the background.

Re: Fairwell GMP

Well, first Corgi out of the 1/32 business (at least for now), then this. I hope Hobby Master's new line of 1/32s will take up the slack (let's see what comes next after the SBD). Looks like their prices will be akin to GMPs reather than the Corgis, though, which doesn't augur very well unless quality is absolutely top notch.

I need to get that Pacific diorama ASAP (already have the European)...

Re: Fairwell GMP

It's starting to look like a shakeout is occurring among diecast makers. First, we see Dragon cutting back, or at least delaying future risky ventures such as its promised P-38. We all know about Corgi's recent troubles, but add in newcomers like Hobby Master, Carousel 1 and Gemini--at least in the military arena--plus those cautious folks at Century Wings and you can see the impact of new competition on what was once regarded as "The Establishment" in this field. Enter MRC ( Easy Model ) with a huge new lineup of low cost plastic product and things are getting even more complicated---and competitive. Small wonder that GMP is opting out. Which begs the question. Who will fall next? And if over saturation is an issue---with too many companies offering "me-too" Mustangs, Spitfires, P-40s and BF-109s -- isn't it time that the remaining players start branching out to offer us planes that haven't been done to death. Finally, as was suggested in another thread, isn't it time that the much cheaper plastic option be considered for bigger planes such as the B-29, B-47, B-36, and many others for which there seems to be a ready market?

Re: Fairwell GMP

Man, this is too bad -- don't understand why people are dumping stock now for bargain prices... think they'd hold onto 'em and jack those prices up. I never did get a Petie bluenoser... maybe I'll pony up for the full price one last time.

Also, anyone have a source on the european dio cover for a decent price? I've seen it around for $60+ but that seems a bit extreme?

I really, really, wish they'd done a corsair as a swan song.... I will now light a candle and have a moment of silence. Thanks for the models GMP!

I just got the Petie 3 at Danberry Mint, it was the most I paid for a GMP but worth it. I to will miss GMP very much.

I've been told that GMP discontinued the dio cover because they were breaking during shipping, very fragile.

And thanks Pappy for the congrats on my 1/48 Tamiya Me-262 plastic prebuilt model. I should get it this monday.
