Re: Fairwell GMP

I really like my Robert Scott sharkmouth P-40 ...It would of been nice to see a Flying Tigers Tex Hill P-40 made before they closed shop on these.

I would second that JP, what a missed opportunity for us to have one the most iconic of P40s.

I think its very sad that GMPs entry into the diecast market ended so quickly, I guess that people are just not willing to pay such high prices for a diecast model.
I am guilty of this myself because I paid well under the retail price for my two and I am looking around the ebay sites and shops to pick up another.
If there had been no alternative I would have paid the full price for one example but that would have been it.

Because they sold cheaper on ebay I was tempted to buy more than one and I will continue to look for the other two I dont have.

It would seem from GMPs experience that price is the major factor for most collectors.

Re: Fairwell GMP

Funny thing is the collectors for the cars are willing to pay the prices for them GMP car collectibles.
Plus they always seem to sell out fast with them cars too.

The scale is more popular in the car-collecting world, no? You just have to think it was scale that really hampered GMP the most -- 1:32 being the better choice.

Totally agree with you there Pappy! 1/48 would have been good too. That said, they are beautiful planes, especially their P-40's.

Re: Fairwell GMP

It was really nice of GMP to venture into producing diecast a/c eventhough the odd scale, but their motorsports and racing memorabilias are their true 'bread-and-butter". My first GMP product was Steve Kinser's Quaker State sprint race car which I purchased at a souvenir stand in one of the racing venues I used to go to 12 years ago.

Re: Fairwell GMP

Very well said ,

I like my early model Lorraine despite the over size undercarraige and heavy panel lines, the overall finish is excellent.

Re: Fairwell GMP

It's odd that scale would matter so much. Is it because they look "off" when placed next to smaller scale models?

I began collecting 1/48 and only recently moved to 1/72 because of CW. But I also bought the first GMP P-51 the day it was released and never even hesitated due to the "odd" scale.

Very curious.....

I agree in that it doesnt' matter to me, however the more popular scale for aviation collectors before GMP came in was 1:32 (with model builders, too), so I'm just guessing it's a comfort thing... the MSRP didn't help either, but with corgi's MSRP on its one 1:32 they weren't that far off (and you got more with GMP IMO).

Re: Fairwell GMP

I want a GMP Aleutian Tiger P-40E and found one for $99. Is this a good deal?
