Re: Fairwell GMP

It seems GMP compensated for the Mustangs' anorexic landing gear by making their P-40s' "legs" too thick....

running for cover with my helmet now as I anticipate the incoming wrath!.....

Can't argue with the truth old buddy.

......(oh, you left out the emaciated tires)....

Did I mention the emaciated tires? Yeah, they have these too. But hey! Those drop down landing lights are AWESOME!

Re: Fairwell GMP

Cardo, if the only criteria for giving 'thumbs up' to GMP's Mustangs is based upon looking good rather than looking accurate, then I'm in total agreement. They look great. If real P-51Ds had huge, visible flap hinges, skinny landing gear etc. then they would have a true winner on their hands and I would be lamenting their departure from the aircraft sector of the diecast world along with everyone else....It seems GMP compensated for the Mustangs' anorexic landing gear by making their P-40s' "legs" too thick....

I'll agree with you on the P40s but not with your opinion on my much beloved GMP Mustangs . The GMP P40 is one of the finest models ever produced in diecast but is, regrettably, let down by a 'gimmicky' landing gear system that is, as you correctly point out, far too thick (and not sufficiently durable).

Cardo, you like them......and when all the rivet counting and landing gear door measuring and what-have-you is all said and done, that's what really matters....

Re: Fairwell GMP

What will GMP do with the moulds ? Maybe they will sell them onto some one else

It is a sad day when even a 500 run of a very nice looking die cast does not sell. The RAF P40 is a fine looking model and is not too large either.

I have one, and count it as one of my best models

Has anyone made a "perfect" P-51D yet? I don't think so....

IMHO GMP's options and detail work make up for their gaffs -- flaps that raise vertically with those hinges being one... and I admit the profile is slightly off. But they're just so darn pretty -- skinny gear and all.

Re: Fairwell GMP

...It was fun while it lasted.

I spoke to Mark this morning and he said that it's now official that GMP is getting out of the airplane business. We were talking about my getting a couple more European dioramas. Evidently, they are out and they will not be making anymore. The same goes for their aircraft. I can't tell you how disappointed I am to here this. I was really hoping for a GMP Thunderbolt or Corsair, but it looks like they will never be.

If you know of a good source for Euro dioramas send me a PM.

Looks like GMP has a few in stock on their site right now... they were not there the other day when I checked.

Wise words Skunky - you've said something similar before and it rings just as true now and applies to all models and collectors - if you as an individual like a particular model, that's truly what counts ...

Very well said ,

I like my early model Lorraine despite the over size undercarraige and heavy panel lines, the overall finish is excellent.
