GMP Future Releases: F-4U!

Hey,

There is a posting on Aikens Airplanes' GMP section that says to "expect an F-4U Corsair sometime early in 2007." It also says future releases (no real time frame announced) may include a B-25 and P-38, all in 1/35! Awesome if true (though my wallet/credit card will be hurting for sure)!

GMP might do better with Corsair than with P-51D Mustang, but high price + odd scale + !!!NO STAND!!! = $44.95 + shipping on GoMotorBids within a year.

Personally, I think that GMP should have followed Carousel1 route and offer it's models in 1:48. With an exception of "Flyboys" I haven't seen C1 models being "blown off" anywhere.

Regards,

Sergey

Re: GMP Future Releases: F-4U!

Boy did the topic here get me pumped up... but unfortunately that info is very, very old on aikens...

At this point I am doubting we'll see any new molds from GMP but hopefully I'm wrong -- with the demise of Corgi's 1:32 range I appreciate the scale and don't at all mind that it's a fairly unique scale for aircraft.

And I don't think their MSRPs are all that high really considering what you get from Corgi these days for $40

Totally agree with you there, PappyB!

I'd buy it too! I am hoping GMP will release an F4U in the future.

This "news" is from April 2006....and I'd say we are somewhat past (much past, actually) early 2007.

Re: GMP Future Releases: F-4U!

Yeah, OK, sorry about the "hooplah"... I guess I don't go to Aiken's site too much (at least not the GMP section), and got over-excited. I know a lot of companies miss their announced release dates, so I thought this might still be valid in a general sense; but if you guys say it's been on there for quite a while, I guess it might just be wishful thinking.

Oh well, too bad.

As far as Sergey's comments, I've personally gotten over the scale oddity, and for sure, I've never paid full price for a GMP model (all e-bay acquisitions at half-price or less), so I know what he means. But the quality of the models makes up for a lot. So I still hope it happens some day (the F-4U and P-38 for sure).

Check out this link on the UK forum regarding no new releases:

http://forums.diecast-aviation.eu/sh...t=1485&page=43

Looks like bad news for new castings for the immediate future.

I love the models, but still can't quite accept the scale; I wish GMP would reconsider its strategy and build models at 1:48 or 1:32.

And here lies the problem.. We all love these "deals" that we get whether it be from Ebay or from a "seasonal clearance" but what it comes down to is if the retailer can't sell an item to make a decent profit, they won't order any more from the manufacturer which kills any desire for the manufacturer to make new items when people aren't buying what is currently available.
Carousel 1 is in the same predicament.. They made all these WWI (and some WWII) planes which are just gathering dust on retailer shelves, and with competeing manufacturers like Hobby Master which makes similar product for 1/2 the price, there is no incentive to make new stuff which really hurt those of us that collect that scale..
