Re: Detailing of GMP models

Good for you ..I think it's the best P-40 to date....I want mine back from my father after he took it.
JP

I'm sure "Cripes-A-Mighty" will be next for me (if I find one at an OK price). I'm kind of ashamed that I still don't have a blue-nose Mustang in my collection.

You have got to be kidding me...All the years in the USAF and not one Bluenoser of the 352nd....
I have both of them( Petie 2nd & Cripes A Mighty 3rd ) and there great looking as well.

He was a complete fighter pilot.......Colonel John C. Meyer Deputy Commander of the 352nd.

Yeah, I know... If I collected more 1/72 WWII fighters, I'm sure I'd have one by now, but in 1/48 or larger, not much there. EI has a B model blue-nose which is very fine, but I really want a "D".

I just bid on a GMP Cripes-A-Mighty on e-bay, we'll see how it turns out. That's the one I want because of my admiration for George Preddy.

Yes, but that's a bit like saying chlamydia is better than leprosy.

Well, I wouldn't put it quite THAT way: but it's true that we need a decent 1/48 P-51D on the market. My FM ones were OK as place-holders, but given the quality of some of the other products out there, they don't hack the program any more.

Re: Detailing of GMP models

OK, I got my GMP Old Exterminator P-40 in the mail today. It is indeed a superb model... EXCEPT for that tail wheel pointing the wrong way. Mustangdriver warned about that so I wasn't too surprised, but I must say that is a pretty serious flaw in a model that expensive (though I got mine way lower than normal MSRP on e-bay) and which otherwise is perfect. Now I know the wheel can be that way in real life under unusual circumstances, but to me it just looks really weird and I'm not too happy about it. I'm raking my brains trying to figure out a way to correct this. I fear there is no easy way...

I don't know, am I being to fussy with this "detail"? Jim, Mr. P-40, tell me, what do you think?

Re: Detailing of GMP models

I never did care for that either, FVD...That little flaw probably saved me from buying it..Like you, although I know it's technically not wrong, it just doesn't look right...Apparently JC Woodman felt that way too, and he undertook to do something about it..

Thanks Skunky! I may try the same thing. I wonder if drilling is really necessary, maybe just the superglue would be enough (?).

We'll see... In any event I'm not inclined to leave it as is.
