| GMP P-40 gear question Just received Old Exterminator today and you guys were right- this thing is just awesome! One question though- the tricky little gear operated fine coming down the one time, but how are they supposed to go back up. I can't seem to get mine to work again. I know some guys report these are a bit fragile but I just wanted to see it in action just one more time. | ||||||||||||||

| Re: GMP P-40 gear question
I, very carefully, push mine back into place. I think there was a video posted ether on this forum, the UK, or the original MH forum. I look and see if I can find it.

| Re: GMP P-40 gear question I can report with some confidence that the gear is indeed fragile, sufficiently so that the current design will without any doubt prevent me from buying another GMP P40. Why do I say this you may ask? Well, I've just successfully broken the landing gear system while gently putting a little pressure on it to see whether I could correct the 'pigeon toed' stance on the one strut - partially my fault I know ( ) , but I would prefer a system that is less 'gimmicky' and more solid (even two piece like EI and Carousel models would be far more preferable) ...(The 'V' wire was also loose on my model when I received it but was easily fixed.) | ||||||||||||||

| Re: GMP P-40 gear question
Naw, I've got far more 'perfect' models than those with issues (quest for 'zero defect'). Usually the issues (if any) are minor and easily corrected but like with the P40 (self-inflicted) "stupid is as stupid does" - referring to myself of course (I don't want to tempt fate but as of yet I've not had any problems with Carousel and Eagles International models and my Franklin Mint and Dragon Warbirds are also generally pretty good .)

| Re: GMP P-40 gear question I've found the trick with the P-40's is to manually open the gear doors, hit the button, and then gently give the gear a "nudge" and it retracts/lowers on it's own pretty well. That said, I don't fool with 'em much. | ||||||||||||||

Ah, that's true PappyB, but the clear difference is that you're wise, whereas sometimes I can astound myself by being a really idiot! ![]() The golden rule appears to be that you shouldn't play with your undercarriage! (Cue for Skunky to enter the debate ...)

| Re: GMP P-40 gear question
Don't worry Card -- I've busted more than my fair share of Dragon fiddly bits putting models together right out of the box (nothing I hate more than breaking something on a brand new model!) and knocked a few blades off of props and such doing photo shoots for the site... you're in like company ![]()
