| Re: GMP P-40 gear question I find that some times the button does not release the landing gear, on the GMP P40. However, all the button does, is to push the landing gear retaining clips forward to release the landing gear. If the button does not work, I just the retaining clips gently towards the propeler. The P40 landing gear is the weak part of the model. What we need is an upgrade kit, of a flying pilot and stand | |||||||||||||

| Re: GMP P-40 gear question Just thought I would share my happy day with you nice people. Today (all the way from the good old US of A) arrived a Gmp Old Exterminator. WOW! what a brilliant piece of diecast, it sits nicely with my Texas Longhorn. The wheels came down straight and true no problem. As discussed before I must say I am amazed that nobody at GMP spotted the tail wheel being the wrong way around! However I am just glad to have got this beauty after such a long wait, well you just cannot have a P40 without having a Sharkmouth version can you. What made the day even better was that with a little help from my neighbour I managed to smuggle it past Lorraine and get it into the cabinet. I love to have a little victory now and again, it adds a little spice to life. Now about that Kittyhawk? | |||||||||||||

Yeah, Jim, doesn't the quality of these GMP P-40s want to make you own the whole set? I know I'm only waiting for prices to get a bit lower to get them (but who knows, this may not happen with the new ones). FVD

| Re: GMP P-40 gear question Hi FVD, I said to myself I dont have the room for more than one of these, ( I often talk to myself I hope this doesnt mean I am losing it). A very kind member of the forum helped me get Texas Longhorn for a very good price, but as soon as I saw it I knew I would have to get another one. I then thought well, I will just get a Sharksmouth to go with the TL. Now I know I will just have to get the Kittyhawk, well you have to have a desert version I mean well they practically ran the show out there for a while. But then I will have 3 of the 4 P40s so I might as well go for the set. Its so easy to get drawn in. But then I thought well Jim, its the perfect diecast of the perfect plane, the P40 so whats the problem??????????????? Well I couldnt think of one so I shall indeed go for the set. I would really like GMP to do a Zero to go with Old Ex but I think pigs will fly before that happens, Shame. BTW FVD I got the Old EX from ebay USA for $59. Worth every cent. | |||||||||||||

| Re: GMP P-40 gear question
Jim, I can't remember exactly what I paid for Old Ex on e-bay, but it was around that figure as well, maybe slightly more. Same for Texas LH. So I'm hoping eventually the other two will show up for that kind of money as well, at which point I'm jumping in. I shouldn't really, if I were reasonable, but these are just too nice. I don't have the same urge with the GMP P-51s. I have one (Cripes-A-Mighty), and it's very nice, but for one thing I already have 3 Corgi Mustangs in 1/32, and also the GMP Mustangs are not as good as the P-40s. But I had to have a Blue-Nose. You got the best of the bunch with Cripes-A-Mighty according to all the guys on the forum. I just wish I had more space for the big stuff.

| Re: GMP P-40 gear question Just received The Texas Longhorn, and I have been able to gently put the landing gear back in the retracted position. You just have to be very careful. I will try to find a stand to show this plane in flight as the right wheel when extended is "pigeon toed" and does not seem to be very sturdy. | |||||||||||||

| Re: GMP P-40 gear question
I had this happen with one of my p-40s, too... it happened after I "nudged" the "self-actuating" gear a bit to get it to come down. Examining the gears on the pigeon-toed wheel I saw that they were basically one click too far forward compared to the other wheel. I took a deep breath and put enough torgue on the strut to click one notch back and the pigeon toed problem was solved...
