Would you buy an F-86 if GMP made it?

I would really like for GMP to branch out to producing diecast jet aircraft, even though I believe this notion to be
a long shot. Just imagine what they could do if they gave the same treatment to detailing the F-86 along the same lines
as their beautifully crafted P-51 and P-40 diecasts. Just imagine features like a removeable aft fuselage and tail body assembly which exposes
the jet engine detail, 'extendable' leading edge slats if it's an F-86E model, airbrakes that can be opened and closed,.50cal MG gun bays, etc.

I mean the possibilities are endless. As for the schemes there are too many to chose from, but I would definitely choose the mounts of aces that
were featured in the History Channels "Dogfights Over Mig Alley" - Robbie Risner, Ralph Parr, "Boots" Blesse et cetera!

So what do you guys think?

I voted yes, but that's assuming the details mentioned by flyXwire are there (engine, etc...). I'm pretty sure GMP wouldn't do it any other way.

I'm a real sucker for the F-86... (one of the very few airplanes I have in 1/18 scale).

Again, this is outside the scales that I collect...

Should I even be voting if I don't collect GMPs?

Re: Would you buy an F-86 if GMP made it?

Sorry, I would much rather GMP stay focused on the prop market for a while -- I'd MUCH, MUCH rather see a Corsair with folding wings, a 190, and maybe a P-38 before any branching into jet territory. If they can do both in tandem, great, I'd certainly consider an F-86, but its not somthing I'm really hankering for.

Oh a P-38 would be a dream....I love to get one of them in a GMP.
I'm not really sure what GMP is up too but they have slowed down a bit since they started too and so far only two types are being made.
It may be a few years before we see our wishlist of planes.

Personally, I'm not getting my hopes up too high for much new stuff from them -- I'm a bit concerned that sales are not there to push them to invest in new molds, at least more than one or two every year or two... the P-51s and even TL P-40 are getting dumped for obscene prices on ebay and elsewhere. Someone's dumping a lot of stock...

Re: Would you buy an F-86 if GMP made it?

Pappy makes a good point about GMP.

Three of the finest lines of planes, GMP, Carousel 1 and Eagles International, appear to be priced above the reach of the "normal" collector. Especially in the cases of C1 and EI, a modest price decrease may be made up and more in terms of increased sales volume. Another option for all three would be to offer a single plane at a reduced price and marketed as such--a break even promotion. When customers jump on that deal and see the quality offered, many would be inclined to buy more.

As I see it, C1 and EI compete most directly against FM/Armour and the 1/32 scale Corgis. With FM/Armour raising prices, the two smaller lines may benefit, assuming that FM/Armour fails to come to its senses on this price hike. [ASIDE: have you noticed the number of FM/Armour sales by dealers who appear to be getting out or greatly reducing that line in front of the pricing increases?]

GMP's most direct competitor seems to be the 1/32 scale Corgis. I am very fond of both of these lines. Still GMP is clearly the best of the best. But at $150 a pop retail, a price which is rarely reduced by vendors (once I saw a P-51 on sale after Christmas by a well known on line vendor for about $110), you can get a Corgi 1/32 plane for half that price and often for even less. Of course you can also go the Bay and other auction sites and win a new or mint-in-box GMP for 1/3 to 1/2 the $150 retail price. That's a price break that is very hard to resist.
