Re: Would you buy an F-86 if GMP made it?

I doubt that we'll ever see a real Fury, but rather a Sabre wearing a Fury paint scheme. There just enough differences between the FJ-2, the Sabres closest cousin, and the Sabre that it would require different tooling. I don't think anyone will produce any of the FJs anytime soon.

I doubt it will be because of the tooling differences, but because the Fury is a rather obscure platform in the grand scheme of Naval Aviation. Although it is historically significant as being the first swept wing jet fighter in Navy service.

The overall dimesnsions are the same, except for the height, which is off by about a foot. Wingspan and length are the same, IIRC. The slatted wing of the earlier Sabre was used, the wing of the later F-86F being deemed to have too great a low-speed handling penalty for safe carrier-based operations. A flat horizontal tailplane was used instead of the dihedral tailplane. Full naval equipment, including catapult attachment points and arrester gear, was fitted. Wheel track was increased eight inches over the USAF Sabre, and the landing gear was beefed up and made more robust. The FJ-2 had folding wings and was armed with 4 20-mm cannon with 600 rounds. A modified cockpit canopy was introduced. The gunsight was the Mark 16 Model 2, and the AN/APG-30 ranging radar was fitted.

Yes, there are differences, but I'd probably still buy one in a Navy or USMC livery as long as it had the tailhook and cat attachment points.

C'mon guys, show a little more support for this diecast to be made. Is that too much to ask?

Sorry, flyXwire, but I do not collect post WW II aircraft. You wouldn't want me to LIE, would you?

I would be all over it. I would hope that they would make the highpolish with the yellow bands. I would like to see McConell's bird

I'm not sure if they would get into the jet fighters just yet since there are a few other prop planes they have not done.
Maybe in a few years we may see one i hope and that would be nice.

I've got to agree that I'd like to see some more prop jobs first, most notably the Corsair and then there's other American, Allied and Luftwaffe / Axis subjects. Still the F86 isn't a bad idea at all. Just a question of timing.
