P-40 Antenna Wires?

I just ordered the Texas Longhorn P-40, for what seems to be a great price ( see Elmer's message in the Good Deals Forum ).

But for the life of me, I just do not understand why they have wires from the tail going to the wings. I can understand a radio antenna from the rear of the cockpit to the tail, but not from the tail to the wings.

I just have never seen this before. I would appreciate any of you experts explaining this to me.

Re: P-40 Antenna Wires?

According to my references, only certain P-40s had this wire setup.. These were the B/C, E, F-20, and K versions.
My references also say that "Texas Longhorn" did have this arrangement..

Re: P-40 Antenna Wires?

BTW, My Texas Longhorn arrived today that I won off Ebay at an unbeatable price..
My first impressions are that with all the opening panels and detailing, this is probably one of, if not the finest diecast airplane made to date.. It is sad to hear GMP is discontinuing its aircraft line, but with these selling for only 33% of its original retail price, I can see why they would want to bail..

I do think that if GMP had made these in a more mainstream scale such as 1/32, we'd probably still see these going for topdollar and in high demand..

On the plus side, I do see these appreciating in value over time and I think every collector should have atleast one GMP as a "showcase" piece..

Congrats Harry, I couldn't agree with you more - you should now consider a brace of Mustangs (Duchess Arlene is particularly good) .

Yup, the wires are as they should be... I had thought the same thing and someone sent me some pics a while back, but I can't find 'em! (And I'm one of the "suckers" that paid $140 for the TL and I still like it... good thing I made up for it with a bunch of stangs for crazy prices!)

Oh Card, I think I am just going to stick with the one since it is "off scale" from my collection, but it will make a nice showpiece with all the panels off.. Now, if I can just find that diorama???
