Hey guys, question for you? Which would you rather get - - - Corgi's 1/32nd BBD or GMP's 1/35th BBD? Just curious...

Re: Pics: GMP BBD P-51D

Without a doubt the GMP Diecast, the fact that the corgi has plastic ailerons that dont match the silver of the rest of the aircaft kills it for me.

Re: Pics: GMP BBD P-51D

I think I know which Skunky would pick.

I recently acquired Corgi's BBD. This is my first Corgi 1:32 Mustang and although its scale is impressive, I was a bit let down by it. The Mustangs certainly weren't given the same TLC that the Spitfires and 109s were given. Here are some of my issues with Corgi's BBD: 1) mold detail is sparse, 2) hardly any stenciling, none on the prop, 3) although I don't own a GMP Mustang it appears: engine, intake, gear well detail is far inferior to GMPs, 4) that pilot really must come out, 5) plastic prop and other parts, 6) the flaps and ailerons, as previously pointed out, appear to be unpainted plastic--although I may be wrong on this point, 7) some fit issues.

Having said this, Corgi's 109s and Spitfires also share some of the same issues above, though not quite as many.

This has left me wondering if I would like GMPs BBD more than Corgi's. I have been wrestling with myself (do I go for a GMP or no?). I would certainly like the metal parts and beautiful engine, intake, and gear well detail, however, GMPs gear look wrong to me, and I don't like the placement of the hinges on the flaps and ailerons; I love GMPs P-40 and have no issues with it except the scale -- I believe GMP should have scaled their models at 1:32.

When you boil it down, both models have issues. I guess one has to decide which issues one is willing to live with, and which issues one will not accept.

GMP's without a second thought -- Corgi's looks good from afar, but feels/looks very toyish when you handle it and look at it up close, IMHO. GMP's has its issues -- the hinges on the moving control surfaces, the gaps where the nose panels are attached, the profile of the nose seems slightly off (too long?)... thin gear, etc. But it's almost solid metal, very high detail in the cockpit, engine, guns, etc. And I like the unique scale...

Re: Pics: GMP BBD P-51D

I notice the antenna on the BBD is a little off...Did they make that with a Rubber/Plastic type of material ?

Yeah, it's rubber -- noted that in the review, one of my "niggles" with this model.

Re: Pics: GMP BBD P-51D

I love GMPs P-40 and have no issues with it except the scale...

On second thought, I do have two other minor issues (and I emphasize minor):1) I am not a fan of the automated gear, at least mine do not work that well and the struts look... well... a bit plasticky (is that a word)? and 2) at this scale the model needs some panel fastener / wing root rivet detail.

Let me emphasize again, these are minor issues for me, for I really do believe it is an excellent mold that produces an outstanding casting with amazing engine, cockpit, intake detail, beautiful stenciled, metal prop, etc.
