Re: Note to Manufacturers: No Swastika, No Sale!

I find this subject irksome because I can go into a local CVS and find not only a swastika emblazoned on a trashy novel cover, but said swastika is embossed and made out of gorgeous silver mylar... So we let that crap be printed, but slap the hands of historical modellers?

It's BS.

And another thing, whilst I'm on a roll, it's not just irksome that the symbol is missing from the tail of a model. How about the incidents where a swastika is applied incorrectly, ruining the appearance of the plane?

There are three ways I've seen swastikas incorrectly presented: A) not in the vertical "diamond" orientation; B) not set at the appropriate place on the tail (FM's Polish campaign He 111 suffers from this-- the swazi needs to be half on the fin, half on the rudder, it is an important visual detail of the period); or C) an incorrect swazi (segmented/ all black/ white outlined/ etc).

Fargan irksome.

And now for something completely different . . .

You guys may think this is weird, BUT -- I won't have any diecast in this house that represents the Axis. Swazi or not. So those wonderful He-111s that I do admire? Verboten! Just a silly little thing of mine. It has nothing to do with anything except I find that stuff ghastly to have on display. No -- my Finnish background hasn't anything to do with it (you all know what was on THOSE planes!) It is just a quirk that I've been happy to live with for the last 40 years.

That leaves me with the RAF and RCAF to collect, which is just fine with me. No American planes you say? Well, I'd be broke inside a week if I started collecting all those stunning examples too! I mean -- who doesn't love a B-17 or Brewster Buffalo or P-40B or P-51B or Catalina? I sure as heck do, but regrettably, I have to draw the line somewhere -- this year anyhow(!)

No Axis diecast here. Period.

I have this one, I'm sure it will be a worthy addition to your collection.

Thumbs up Re: Note to Manufacturers: No Swastika, No Sale!

Yeah -- I've admired it from afar for far too long now. I built the Howard 'Ding Hao' one when I was a kid in 1:72 and really liked the looks/design, etc of that plane. Who knows -- maybe my FIRST U.S. marked fighter? Those GA P-51Bs are certainly sweeeeet!

Your not the only one! The only non Allied birds I have are the Matchbox Zeros, I think? I may have given those to the boy. But I don't collect WW2 German, Japanese or Russian aircraft. And the only non US birds I have are the Gabby Spitfire, GA's US grey Spitfire, Dragon's US tropical Spitfire and the Corgi PRU US Mosquito.
I am looking at the HM FAA Hellcat and Kiwi Avenger as well as the Corgi examples of the same planes. Would like some other British aircraft but just don't have the room.
And since were talking about markings. I'm still working the details out to remark a Hellcat so that I can have the tri-colored bird with red outlined insignia. But I'm not calling for a boycott because it hasn't been done yet?

That is reassuring to know I'm not alone. Cheers!

I have the IXO 110 and the West German Mig 21, guess I can't join this exclusive non-Axis club. I'm close tho'.
