Re: Note to Manufacturers: No Swastika, No Sale!

As a rule when given a choice, I do choose the model with correct historical markings. I passed on Dragon's Ju-87 line, getting Corgi and HM models instead. Lacking a choice, I have a decal sheet.

But I don't always follow my rule if I really like the model.

Re: Note to Manufacturers: No Swastika, No Sale!

For the domestic market they have separate decals that just show a cross.

It's called a Black Sharpie to fix that easy. I always have a sheet of 1/72 swazi decals on hand to fix the problem if a swazi is not present that needs to be.

I agree.

But I see your point, 91ken, and I sympathize with it. I speak with my wallet (I don't buy) when it comes to models with ugly exposed screw heads, little detail, historical inaccuracies, water slide decals (instead of pad printing), and gappy join lines. Sound like any manufacturer we all know?

Speaking of stocking up on things- I wonder if I ought to invest in some swastika decal sheets, in case they are ever banned entirely in Europe. Imagine the profits I could make by selling them to the hard-core European history enthusiasts willing to break the law to buy these and apply them to their aircraft...

I put swazis on because otherwise I would miss out on some pretty darn good models. We all have our lines in the sand. I do hope you will bend with the wind rather than breaking in defiance. There are some good planes to be had for the small task of applying some symbols to the tails.

As an 'Ex' plastic-kit buyer (still) with a vast unbuilt collection & contacts in the 'game'; I can HONESTLY tell ya........

There's TWO hopes of "NEVER" being able to buy 'Swastika' (Hakenkreuz) decals........

'Bob Hope' & 'No Hope' = not a chance; they'll ALWAYS be available thru' what is known as the 'cottage'-industry.........
(after-market suppliers).

Over the last 15 years, I've seen 'decal'-manufacturers "come & go" & at one point (early-late 'Nineties) I built up a VAST decal-sheet collection, many of which I still have (which assisted in adding to my reasonable knowledge of colours & markings, etc).

I've seen the prices rise, too.... from £2.50 a sheet, to around £ 8 or £ 9 (yikes) = one helluva jump.

Even IF they were 'banned' = IPMS hardcore guys would produce them.......
& due to the internet, they'll be NO shortage of buyers EVER !

Relax, Gents (false-alarm).

No worries, HC! This was just one of those VERY RARE occasions where I was being a smart aleck...
