I like diecast because when I built kits the painting was a horror... So I won't come near a paint brush!

Re: To Paint or Not to Paint?...That's the Question.

I like to thin kthat I am a good model builder, although I have seen stuff on here that is just awsome. I collect the diecast first, build whatever isnot made in diecast. Now repainting diecast? I only do that if I have a correct marking for a plane that is already made, but the company left it off. That only goes for the first one bought. I will buy a second one of the same model, and then completely repaint it inot markings that I want that are not made. I did a conversion of a GMP P-40 flying tiger into R.T. Smith's #77. But I would never do that with my only GMP Scott P-40. I bought a seperate one to do that to.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

When I was a teen in the early 60s I spent hours building those classic kits by Revell, Airfix, Frog, Lindberg, Hawk and Monogram. I actually got very proficient with time.

Today, as a business owner of an Advertising firm, I have zero time for kit building, so, 'diecast to the rescue' for the time-poor! I have touched up the odd bit, but nothing major. The most I have done is put a pilot in a Warbirds Bader Spitfire Va, which meant a very careful removal of the canopy. My collection is for my enjoyment anyhow, not resale gain.

What does surprise me though, is the level of proficiency among the members here. Wow, 'no4mkit' those photos sure highlight your talents! Very nice work. The level of amateur photography amongst a number of members here is also very outstanding. (I'm thinking of the TCA connie shots by 'ACpilot' and the shots of the yellow & black B-24D by 'PappyB' -- Wow!)

I guess that is one of the reasons I like to hang out here. You guys always surprise me with neat stuff!

I agree, that 2 seater Spit is first class. At the Spitfire show Duxford I was amazed to see 3 two seater Spits on show.
You are a gifted man No4mkit.

NO 4 you're a wizard with the blade & brush. Superb work that I could not achieve in my hey day many moons ago. If I had those skills I'd never go out!! (well maybe for a few beers)

Thumbs up Dear no4mkit...

you really are an artist IMHO !

What many of us do is merely correcting or improving standard models.

But you are a CREATOR : You almost scratch - build original planes from existing mouldings.

The result is valuable top-quality custom models.

Re: To Paint or Not to Paint?...That's the Question.

many thanks for the accolades, gentlemen! I have a few more modified castings in progress and can't wait to show them here and on the UK forum once finished, problem is there's just too little free time to work on them! When I first posted the pics of the 2 seat Spitfire, someone said I'd have a tough time topping it. Well, one of these latest projects just might! It's actually part of my first modified/repainted diecast set, which has gone from a 2 to a 4 plane set, that I hope to finish sometime before Christmas!!
