BNBB: Blue-Nosed Bastards of Bodney

352nd, MustangDriver, and all other lovers of the P-51 Mustang:

I received an email from Bob "Punchy" Powell!!! What an honor, right?

I was looking for the BNBB, searching used books, and eBay, and my many other sources:

The 352nd Fighter Group Association
announces the publication of
The Bluenosed Bastards of Bodney
By Tom Ivie and Bob Powell

REPRINTED 352nd HISTORY DEDICATED TO MAJOR GEORGE E. PREDDY AVAILABLE AUGUST 2000

Our 352nd history, The Bluenosed Bastards of Bodney, was originally published in 1990. With sterling reviews in aviation press, all 1,600 copies were sold within a year, some 600 of them pre-ordered at $50 per copy; those ordered after publication sold for $60. Then, when the few booksellers who had bought copies started selling them for $75, we raised our price to $75. When they went to $100, so did we. Then they were gone.

In subsequent years, however, as our veterans died, family members put their books up for sale and we sold them and returned the money to the families. As collectors were eager to get copies for resale, the prices went from $100 to as much as $250 a copy. With few, if any available, and the demand for them increasing greatly, we decided to reprint this history. Some few changes and corrections were made, including the back cover, and it was turned over to the printer May 15th and 1,200 copies were ordered. Delivery is scheduled for August 1st. The second edition is dedicated to Major George E. Preddy, top Mustang Ace.

Without a pre-sale promotion, financing became a problem, so three of our dedicated members advanced the fund so the reprint could be ordered. Price of the reprinted copies will be $49.95 plus $4.95 shipping and handling.

If you would like to order a copy of the reprinted 352nd history, The Bluenosed Bastards of Bodney, scheduled to be available for shipment August 1st, please use the order form below. Books ordered after August 1st will be shipped only after checks have cleared. No shipment delay on Money Orders.

Once in a great while a work appears which stands far above all others,
as a diamond among rhinestones. Such a book is The Bluenosed Bastards of Bodney,
a history of the 352nd FG.-- J. Michael Winger

Col. Hubert "Hub" Zemke, legendary C.O. of the famous
56th Fighter Group, described this book as
"...absolutely the best fighter history to come out of World War II."

Orders placed now will be shipped first when the books arrive in early August, 2000!

All this because I mentioned I had just received the Osprey 352nd Fight Group book--and 352nd-Man responded.

I told Mr. Powell I would have him autograph it when I see him in Ohio in late September.

I have told some of you that I baby sat for a Flying Tiger when I was a kid in Chicago. OH, would that I had been a bit smarter then, in 1953....

Re: BNBB: Blue-Nosed Bastards of Bodney

Duxford, that is fantastic news. If I understand, after releasing the new book they will do a 3rd reprint of the original BNBB, correct? I have wanted that book forever.

What is the snail mail address to send notice to Mr. Powell of one's interest in the new book?

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: BNBB: Blue-Nosed Bastards of Bodney

I have had the same great experience talking with Merle Olmstead of the 357th FG and I am good freinds with Maj Richard Petersons son as well. Maj Peterson as some know flew Hurry Home Honey and his son has shared photos, log books you name it with me and Merle Olmstead has gone out of his way to help me with any and all info regaurding the 357th FG. I have talked with Mr. Powell as well on many occasions when I have had a question about the Bluenosers. Its great to have these guys around to help us with questions and so fourth and it is such an honor to know and talk to them as well.

Cool collection you have there Starman. I have a feeling that your fav FG in the ETO was the 352nd? My favorites are the 78th and 357th FG Groups. I know you have Maj Preddy's Cripes A Mighty The 3rd from BBI but do you have Petie The 2nd from 21st? I missed out on Cripes I'm sad to say because I went with HHH but a freind of mine said that Cripes is really nice looking. I wish BBI or 21st would do Preddys last Mustang Cripes A Mighty. Man that was one colorful looking Mustang. To bad Maj Preddy died the way he did. To lose our greatest Mustang Ace to our own ground fire makes me sick inside. Why they werent warned they had Mustangs in the area is a mystery to me.

Re: BNBB: Blue-Nosed Bastards of Bodney

Very nice starman. The one thing I hated about 21st Centurys first release of the new tool Mustang was the bent prop blades and the grey tires. They are simple fixes though if you have the time. But again nice collection buddy.
