Re: Movies and models and bouncing bombs!

Thanks Tankguy,

I had a good look at the site. Lots of interesting stuff about the new movie.

I think that the only option for a name for Gibson's dog is Digger!

MoMo

Oh wow - I must have forgotten about that. I read Paul Brickhill's book as a kid and i guess i didn't bat an eyelid at the time ..

Thing that grabbed me then was how young the airmen looked in the photos in the book.

Might have to hunt the book down again & have a re-read.

Re: Movies and models and bouncing bombs!

Makes you think Corgi might have actually done something right coming out with the Dam buster Lanc. in the Winter supplement. But if the were really thinking they would have released it later to get on the band waggon. You know this move will get lots of press good or bad especially in the UK, would have been great advertising. Will be interesting to see. I know I will be sitting in a theater watching it when it comes out, just hope its done right.

Well, I can tell you this. I have the original "Dam Busters" lanc, but I am now moitivated to get the "Sights and Sounds" version too.

I guess it worked.

Re: Movies and models and bouncing bombs!

Unfortunately C.G.I. Lancasters is ALL you're gonna get (as far as FLYING is concerened).

The sterile movement of C.G.I. will NEVER replace the real thing (AS CURRENT TECHNOLOGY STANDS), It'll have to improve 100 fold.

Witness the sterile Bomb 'movement' in 'Pearl Harbour'..... PATHETIC.

Hey Hornchurch,

I respect your opinion and share some of your trepidation, especially after "Pearl Harbor", but I have to admit that the CGI aircraft in King Kong were really well done...

I will see the movie, one way or the other.

Re: Movies and models and bouncing bombs!

I'm looking forward to this movie remake! Heck, I'm looking forward to the original, as I've never seen it . I'll need to check my local library.

Re: Movies and models and bouncing bombs!

Hey,Guys,

some of you ain't poting your fav.war movies and related attempts at modelling or tracking down the hardware used in 'em!

We need some feedback here! For authenticity, 'Ryan' wins hands down while 'The battle of the Bulge' was the crappiest attempt at authenticity. ' ' Battleground ' ( Van Johnson, et al ) was the best Hollywood attempt at realism and compares well with 'Band of Brothers'. ( you have to take into account 50 years between them! )

How about the WORST WAR MOVIE, EVER!

It has to be : ' Flying Tigers'.... This has got to be the Duke's highest pile of useful farm manure. Watch it today and cringe at the patronistic attitudes and well-meaning racist jibes which abound! The Chinese must wonder if it was worth hiring pilots for the Tigers when they see this movie!

Come on |Guys, what's your best and worst movies?

HAPPY MIND-WRESTLING !

Re: Movies and models and bouncing bombs!

What about " The Great Escape"?

English Football fans have adopted it as one of their football anthems. There wasn't much in the way of hardware though. Unless you count Steve McQueen's bike!

I haven't modelled many bikes in 1.72, except for some BMW combinations. I don't think that anyone has produced any diecasts in 1.72. Could that be a future project for our pals at Admiral? They wouldn't be hard to do and I'm sure that a small collection of 1.72 bikes with D.Rs ( dispatch riders ) would be a great little diorama within a box which would appeal to collectors everywhere.

How about this: Steve, on his trusty bike, about to try a second jump over the barbed wire while a few combo.s closed in on him!

I once thought of making up a wargame based on The Great Escape, but because much of the game would, by necessity, be happening underground I figured that there would be too much that would have to be taken on trust!

Too many dimentions!

Good Luck,

MoMo

Worst is either Midway with the F9F or Pearl Harbor with a modern carrier battlegroup - with their CGI budget, how difficult could this have been?

Re: Movies and models and bouncing bombs!

They should get the guys who made that short little C.G.I. flick with the Mosquitos and Spits, that was brilliant. Tried to post it but kept getting errors . If you have it try to post it please.
