The story was written by Frank "Spig" Wead, a former Naval aviator. John Wayne later played Mr. Wead in the 1957 flick "The Wings of Eagles" (which was another good one). | The most memorable scene for me of "The Wings of Eagles" movie when John Wayne was paralyzed: "I'm gonna move that toe -- I'm gonna MOVE that toe!"
Watching this movie as a kid, and seeing The Duke as Spig Wead fight to move that damn toe (corny as it was) after he was paralyzed, helped to teach me the principle of never giving up, if you wanted something badly enough -- NEVER! |
