Re: Hollywood Aviation Films:Your favorites?

I've gotta go with The Blue Max, with Midway as a strong second! I liked Flyboys also, but the dogfight scenes in The Blue Max just seem more realistic.

Re: Hollywood Aviation Films:Your favorites?

I don't know The McConnel story. Anyone got details and is it available on DVD?

Amongst my favourites are Way To The Stars and David Niven in A Matter Of Life And Death.

This movie is not available on DVD...in fact I haven't seen it in the old VHS format either. If you go to Turner Classic Movies website link below, you
can vote to have this movie released on DVD.

Thanks for the link. Alan Ladd and June Allyson must make it a worthwhile film to see.

Re: Hollywood Aviation Films:Your favorites?

Just saw one the other day that I thought would go good on this list. Movie "Wake Island" filmed in 1942 was a pretty good old War Bond type flick.

Re: Hollywood Aviation Films:Your favorites?

Another one I forgot to mention is "Hell Diver", with Clark Gable and Wallace Beery. The story was written by Frank "Spig" Wead, a former Naval aviator. John Wayne later played Mr. Wead in the 1957 flick "The Wings of Eagles" (which was another good one).
