Thumbs up Re: So I am buying an AT-6.......

Would it make you guys sick if I said under $1,000?

That's great mustangdriver. I'm real happy for you. You're one of the young people that are really doing a lot to preserve history.

Re: So I am buying an AT-6.......

Thanks guys. I am really glad to be getting this thing. I appreciate all of the great support from everyone. My goal is to honor the people who started to fly these machines as boys, and went of to war to become men.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Heck, I don't have a pilots license, and would have nowhere to put it, but I'd have been mighty tempted to buy if for under $1000!

Way to go, mustangdriver. Great for you, and great that you saved it from the scrap heap!

(and, yes, I AM a little sick!)

WOW mustangdriver! Not only did you get a great deal, but the plane went to somebody who appreciates it and will treasure it. That alone makes me happy. To think it almost got sold for scrap. You are a hero in my view and deserve all our thanks. Thank you for preserving a piece of history. I may never see it, but know I'm with you in spirit man when you take that baby for its first ride.

Re: So I am buying an AT-6.......

I am still in shock over a few things. One is that they were going to cut it up, and the other is that I now own it.

Re: So I am buying an AT-6.......

Before you take the wings of it, check with somone that has done it before so you dont wrek the wing spar. I have only seen it beeing put on the at-6, not taken off. It will be some work but its smart to do it slow and correct.

Re: So I am buying an AT-6.......

Okay, can someone tell me, a non-pilot, non-hardcore aviation buff, what the deal is with the propellor and this stuff about the spars? I can see where you'd want the engine checked over, but what is all this other stuff?

And when do you learn the history from the VIN number?? LOL

Re: So I am buying an AT-6.......

Well there is a lot that must be checked with an old plane. The engine must be overhauled or checked for safety reasons. All fuel lines and tanks must be checked or replaced. Control wiring must be throughly checked or replaced. Wing spar must be exraied and checked and this is just some of the things.

Its all to do with safety, you don't want to wreck it.

I have a friend that bought a DeHavilland DH 115 Vampire T55, it had not flown for 3 years and they have gone over it now for about 7 months (hope this is last few weeks of overhaul) It had a scheduled test flight to regain in Certificate of Airworthiness last month, then of course one gear would not raise. Its now fixed. And expensive

But the AT-6/SNJ/Havard is a more easy plane to fix, so mustangdriver has a nice time ahead. PS! Should that now be at6dirver

It has less to do with wrecking IT than it does with wrecking yourself..
