Re: Walters Junkyard

OMG Wonder if he even relized the gold mine he had there, never mind getting the planes restored all the parts that he could offer up to other people restoring warbirds. Wonder if its even still there, it is sad to see them neglected like that, just need some tlc and a whole lot of cash unfortunatley.

Re: Walters Junkyard

I was there as well. I met Walter, and I would not call them junk to his face or to any one else. The planes were taken apart, not just cut apart. The The Super Corsair is underrestoration to static for the Crawford Racing Museum in Cleveland. It is Cook Cleyland's Corsair. THe Cutlass went to the Naval Aviation Museum. Both B-25's were sold, and wild cargo was flown out. The B-36 is still there, I flew over there in the spring. One of the P-82's was sold, while the NACA P-82 has had some restoration work done to it, and is indoors with the TBM Avenger. That is about all I know.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: Walters Junkyard

He worked for the government, and bought all of it as scrap. When he went to reassemble the stuff for restoration, the government stepped back in, and said that once he started to restore any of it, it would no longer be junk, and that he would have to pay taxes on all of it. He could not afford it, so he preserved him the best he could.

Re: Walters Junkyard

It was on WIX I found out about Walter, in my eyes he is a hero in the warbird world. He has saved so many unlike planes that would other wise been cut up for scrap. This is my kind of junkyard, its HEAVEN

These planes will with inn the next 20 or so years come into museums around the world, some will fly and people will have the pleasure to see them. Now he is a true dicast collector in size 1/1

Re: Walters Junkyard

Some really good stuff there! Surely by now the government must realize these aircraft are worth restoring purely on a historical basis.I would think that they need preserving.

Even here the SAAF Museum constantly works to restore old aircraft.

That said last year there was some controversy over the museum in Johannesburg that had small arms as well as heavy weapons that were deemed unlicensed!
