Wink Re: 1/48 scale IL2 Sturmovik

I'll have the IL2 Sturmovik any day! In 1/72 that is! I don't collect 1/48 and don't intend starting although I have to admit that there are some very nice models in that scale. In 1/72 the IL10 would be most appreciated too. If I had to have only one, it'd be the IL2 though.

Re: 1/48 scale IL2 Sturmovik

I voted no, but only because of the scale specified. I have to stick with 1:72 scale because I just don't have the room for any larger aircraft models.
that said, a good 1:72 scale IL2 would be welcomed. I have the Altaya version, and it's pretty mediocre.

Re: 1/48 scale IL2 Sturmovik

My reservation, to SUCH an important W.W.II a/c would be the quality of the mould & shape in general.

It's gonna be trouble enough, getting the fuselage right.......BUT then.......

Whoever makes one, will have to pay PARTICULAR attention to the MAJOR differences of the mid-to-outer wing sections & the leading edges

As a general rule - the early-mid war Single seaters had a MUCH straighter leading edge........
as opposed to the Twin seat IL-2m3's swept back/angled leading edge........

The wings of each version being NOTICABLY different.

I've got both versions (in 1/48th) in plastic kit form, by (the superb) Accurate Miniatures firm.

Check a comparitive PLANFORM view from above (of BOTH versions), & see for yourselves ?????????

I'll buy this as long as whoever makes it pays place attention to HC's advice above.

Re: 1/48 scale IL2 Sturmovik

I'll gladly jump on the bandwagon if the bird were 1:72 scale. It's a fine size for me and I like the idea of my planes being all the same scale.

Re: 1/48 scale IL2 Sturmovik

Hm, well Cardo it seems 1/72 is the favoured scale. Before you talked me into buying the P40 and Dora I would have agreed with that opinion, however as soon as I cast my eyes over those two birds I was hooked. 1/48 really does show of the lines of the aircraft a lot better than 1/72. Everything is in proportion and looks more accurate in 1/48 than 1/72. I think probably space is a problem for many collectors but I would say go ahead and buy a couple of your favourite birds so you can and see the difference the increase size makes.

Trust me and Cardo folks ,we talk from experience.

Sturmovik in 1/48 would be an interesting if ugly piece of diecast.

Re: 1/48 scale IL2 Sturmovik

The Sturmovik was a very important aircraft in WWII. It had a makor impact on the Eastern Front battlefield. For me, that's more than good enough to want one (plus a few other Russian planes...) in my collection. I don't go by sheer beauty alone.

1/48, please. Jim put it pretty well...

Re: 1/48 scale IL2 Sturmovik

I had to vote "no" on the 1:48 scale option.

IF it was a 1:72 WITH a pilot and a rear gunner (in the $35 range), then - YES! YES!

1:72, no pilots/gunner - MAYBE - also depending on price. Have to look at the model first - i.e. IXO's
