Re: Flyboys

Well the climb rate would be a little Hollywood style.
By adding all the things they did it made the movie a little more modern.
But anything can explode like that if you hit it with bullets.
But i think it would more look like a fireball going down in flames
rather then what you saw on the clip.
Which i thought was pretty good.Your guns jam on you then the next thing you know you got the Red Fokker Dr.1 on your tail....That has got to be the most hopeless feeling in the world (your heart drops right out of you) and then he just pulls up to you and salutes you ...
what a relief.

I guess it's always worthwhile supporting new aviation-themed productions (especially anything to do with WWI), it's just too bad that they didn't get the hint from Pearl Harbor.

What's weird is that they went to so much trouble filming the actual flying sequences. Too many film-makers still have not figured out that just because you can do it in CGI, you should. The old Star Wars models on a string seem a lot more dynamic than anything in the latest claptrap from Lucas.

The coolest WWI aerial effects are in Hell's Angels (the cleavage and the airplanes are the only worthwhile parts though) where when stuff gets bombed it REALLY gets blown up. I guess OSHA won't allow the Howard Hughes approach anymore - too bad. Speaking of on the job hazards, seeing the Sikorsky S-29A buy the farm is worth the price of rental (too bad a cameraman went in with it).

On another note, I noticed at Aikens, Carousel is releasing a whole host of tie-in diecast for Flyboys. As much as I like Carousel's product, I can't see these working out for them.

I may actually find myself buying one of these.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: Flyboys

I merged the two threads on this one. The preview that AllenTC2 posted the link to looks impressive, but you can tell it's just going to be a popcorn movie, hopefully it doesn't live up to the "Pearl Harbor" comparison mentioned earlier.

I agree about the planes. I also checked them out & there are 3 Nieuports & 2 DR1s. They are all based on the planes used in the movie. As much as I want WWI birds, I also want historically accurate schemes. I'll have to pass on these & hope Carousel1 does different planes or at least choose from the many real liveries available (especially for the Fokker tri-plane).
