Re: Die-cast event of the year

I agree with Gambit up to a point. The quality that GeminiAces is going to represent is a giant leap forward. Metal props, landing gear, and flaps - never been seen before. Price is great too. But what are they making? Another Spit and 109. I know I keep repeating this guys, but NOT everyone's collecting world revolves around Spitfires and Bf109s. The P-51B is revolutionary as no one has had the forsight to make one. As for HobbyMaster, let's be honest here. Quality can be better, but it's not bad now. And look at the rare planes they are making. When they annouce a new production run, it's not just another repaint of existing molds like Gemini is going to do, HobbyMaster adds a new mold. That's what makes them unique - they listen to us and make what we want.

For all the time we have been waiting for the Gemini planes, you'd think they could offer something else besides three planes. Are they going to release three planes a year? No matter how good they are, this won't help them. You can't live on your press clippings. You gotta move on.

Doing what you want is freedom; doing what you like is happiness.

Re: Die-cast event of the year

If all the hype about GA is true they will get my vote (and more of my money, 2 on pre-order now) HM is nice, kind of a step up from IXO but not quite in the same group as Corgi yet. Granted they are making lots of new molds, which to me points out that they have a great research and marketing team trying to check out and give the hobbyist (aka addicts like us ) what we want to a point. But a lot of collectors are looking for the certs, and limited runs that should make the model more valuable in the future.
So sit back and hold on for the ride this could be the golden age of die cast aircraft, with so many new player coming out (HM,GA,IXO,FOV) and the existing gang something is going to have to give. I do not think the market is that big .

Re: Die-cast event of the year

Yes I know another spit, 109 and mustang.....always the same old story.

But ask any store owner and they'll say WW2 planes and especially the above are their best sellers day-in and day-out. Sort of the industry standards that you gotta have if your making diecast planes.

For me I'll buy one or two to see what they're like, personally I like the bigger WW2 scales and the civils.

Re: Die-cast event of the year

I voted for HM. Yes, the GA planes look like they will be winners, and I like the idea of metal props, etc, and a P 51 B will be nice, but... they have yet to sell a plane to anyone yet, and there are already boatloads of 109's and P 51's (tho not the "B" version) available. I like HM's detail, and the fact that they are doing some craft that no one else are doing currently.

I have a feeling Hobby Master is going to make more of a splash. I think they will have a larger range of planes. Hobby Master ain't no Corgi. They're more like a....Doberman!

Re: Die-cast event of the year

Hobby Master do grow on one. The more I look at my Lexington Dauntless (crooked landing gear has been straightened - with great care I might add), the more I tend to like it for the detail and effort that appears to have gone into its development and production. They're likely to only get better and better .

You are joking, aren't you...? HM might not have released quite as many models as Corgi yet, but their quality is certainly as good as, if not better than Corgi's. (And this from a loyal Corgi collector .)

Re: Die-cast event of the year

All this excitiement about Gemini, and they haven't released a single plane to the market as yet . Don't get me wrong, I hope they are as good as all the hype, but so far that's all it is - hype!

Hype, what hype ...? More like informed speculation .
