Thumbs up Helmut Wick Illustrated Biography

Just received this book by Herbert Ringlstetter and it's beautiful in every way.

Schiffer books puts out several nice works on aviation and military history but this is my first. You have to see this book. The collection of stories about '40-'41 and photos are amazing. The back contains near 32nd scale color plates of every Messerschmitt he flew. Normal price is $45+ but a local wholesaler got it new for me for just $36. A steal!

Re: Helmut Wick Illustrated Biography

I have several titles (USN battleship/cruiser aircraft, B-32, B-18, Curtiss fighters, Fleet Air Arm) from Schiffer Books, and you can order directly from them: Schifferbooks.com - Surf Memorabilia, Woodcraft, Afrikakorps, Waffen-SS, Rommel, Geisha, Pin-up Girls

Very good quality books, the printing, photographs, endpapers, etc are all top notch. There are some typos and the writing is not consistently at the level of the presentation, but overall I'd recommend books from this publisher without hesitation.

The Bookhouse in Jonesville MI...on the web too.

They let you know the discount when it comes in as they vary for some reason.

Re: Helmut Wick Illustrated Biography

Dear Guys,

Just been reading a bit about John Dudas who shot Helmut Wick down. This occured in July, 1940. The rest of his squadron, 609, heard Dundas on the RT yelling, " Whoopee,I've got a Hun!". Moments later Wick's wingman shot down John Dundas. He was killed instantly.

Dundas had destoyed at least 11 enemy aircraft while Wick was credited with over 50 kills.

After the engagement, a yellow rubber dinghy was spotted in the Channel and a minor naval engagement broke out between E Boats and Motor torpedo boats as the Germans tried to rescue their Ace. As it transpired, the dinghy was empty.

Above all gleaned from : The Battle of Britain, etc. " by Matthew Parker.

I'm half way through it and it's a bloody good read! Lots of Oral History from the participants from both sides.
