Re: McCain A-4E

I have the pictures on my computer. I can post them in thumbnail form however I would like to post a couple in "full frame".

the thumbs do link to the full size pic, it's just another click... (though I know, I want to do the direct full frame posting too, but it seems you need to host the pics elsewhere to do this, I don't see a way to make it work with the VB Image Host)

How about uploading the thumbnail while you figure out what to do? Or just add it to your site and give us a link you don't have to upload the link to another page on your site. The only people that could get a look would be anyone on the forum. You only have to leave it there for a day or two.

Re: McCain A-4E

As RJLee already related the first VA-46 Commanding Officer of the Clansmen was a McDougal. Commander Clifford A. McDougal used his family tartan for the squadrons patch and planes.

1st tartan pattern is McDougal (1953-63)

2nd tartan pattern is McKenzie (1963-66)

3rd tartan is the Second Variation (1966-68)

Re: McCain A-4E

In November of 2004 the Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville, Oregon added an A-4E (BuNo 152070) to its 121,000 square foot facility. The museums Skyhawk is in the colors VA-46 ‘Clansmen’ (BuNo 149996) during the squadrons USS Forrestal WESTPAC cruise of 1967.

Representatives from the museum contacted Forrestal crew members and pilots from VA-46 to gather information about the events of July 29, 1967 & to insure to the accuracy of the A-4s restoration.

Re: McCain A-4E

The plane is dedicated to those who were injured (62), killed (132), & reported as missing/presumed dead (2) as a result of the Forrestal fire.

Re: McCain A-4E

The Skyhawk was restored at the Evergreen facility in Arizona, interestingly enough this outstanding paint job was applied out side in the elements.

Re: McCain A-4E

hawkonevoodoo, I hope these pictures were worth the wait. The plane is amazing to see in person and I would love to have one for my self; so see what you can do to get this baby released.

If you need any particular angles I can take more photos; I will be visiting the museum again soon to take pictures of the new VF-31 F-14D.

Great pictures, definitely worth waiting for. Since you are going there would you mind taking pictures of both wings from an elevated position as well as the under side? This would show any markings on the wings and if you see any special details such as the fences on the wing in your 4th picture of the first set of shots maybe take some close ups of them http://themodelhangar.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1593&d=1168693504 . While I’m asking, would you take some pictures of the wing from the rear so I can see the trailing edge and some detail of the inside of the flaps a little better. A few shots of the inside of the wheel wells would be good to determine the paint job. If possible a picture similar to this example. fficeffice" />>>

Thanks for all your help. I wish I were going with you but I would need a week to spend just there. Plus the 4,000 miles between me and there doesn’t help.

Re: McCain A-4E

I looked through my pics and found a couple more which might be helpful. I will head to the Museum and do a Skyhawk photo shoot soon.
