Re: McCain A-4E

the " Scottish Stuff " are tartan bands in a tartan which it appears McCain may not be entitled to wear.

There are problems with 'McCain' being a real Scottish name with a real Scottish tartan. It is more likely that the name 'McCain' originates in Co Derry in Ireland.

You need to have a real Scottish Clan name ( or have a name that is a Sept of the Clan ) in order to wear the tartan.

I don't know what McCain may have claimed personally, but the tartan bands on the airplane pictured are attributable to the unit, not to McCain himself. VA-46 was an attack squadron known as the "Clansmen" and based its insignia on the family tartan of its first CO (a McDougal). The tartan pattern itself changed over the years (mostly by accident) with personnel turnover in the squadron paint shop.

I gather you have not read Pratchets disc world books. There are some very good reasons in there as to why you should be afraid....Very afraid. Feegles are not to be messed with.

Re: McCain A-4E

Thanks for the information, RJLee,

If anyone is thinking of copying the tartan bands for a MacDougall plane, here is the pattern. I wonder if the first commander had the MacDougall crest on his own plane. If he was a MacDougall then he was certainly entitled to use it.

Re: McCain A-4E

How do you post full size pictures instead of the thumbnails? I have resource pictures I sure you will want to see.

I think your best option would be contact the Admin and see what he can do. I'd really like to see what you have. Can you send me a copy while you are figuring this out. hawkonevoodoo@yahoo.ca
