Re: Question about Vendor Service ??

Flaps,
Hey there.

I'm not sure if your issue has been resolved yet, nor if you have been contacted by the retailer? However, if you emailed them over the last weekend they may not have been open. It was the labor day weekend and while they may have had a "brick & mortar" open, they may not have been reading emails or dealing with any internet commerce.

As a few others have suggested, give them a call. In all fairness, they may be rushing to catch up and just not had the opportunity to get to you yet.

After that, if they still haven't even offered to take care of you, please give us the details of the transaction and exactly what the problem was. Even if you do not mention the vendor, we all can learn from the experience.

Re: Question about Vendor Service ??

This bad-vendor/good-vendor topic could do serious damage to this fantastic forum (just look at MH1), something every last one of us would like to avoid, thank you very much.

On the other hand, there’s an urgency to this issue, a legitimate interest that begs careful and sober attention. If we can approach it within an accepted framework, perhaps a protocol that insists on decorum and fairness, we can make this thing work.

So allow me to offer one workable solution ...

Thankfully, we don’t have to reinvent the wheel: E-bay’s “check the seller’s reputation” method works extremely well. It provides buyers with an elegant, effective way to see at a glance if sellers are reasonably trustworthy (see below). Why couldn’t we adapt their solution to our needs?

Granted, this approach could take any number of forms. But wouldn’t it be nice to see at a glance how responsible and dependable a particular vendor is? This rating percentage would be coupled to buyers’ real-time positive and negative comments.

Here's the catch: Before buyers commented negatively, they'd have to: (1) do everything possible to contact the seller and rectify the situation;(2) give the seller sufficient time to rectify the situation; and (3) avoid inflammatory, slanderous language. (E-bay is not legally liable for negative input. MH2 shouldn’t be, either.)

This is only a suggestion; Admin is absolutely under no obligation to even consider this approach. But it does offer, perhaps, a simple solution to a very sticky subject.

Gorto..
The only real problem with your idea is that the "other party" doesn't respond to any accusation, so there is only one side of the story..
If there was a way to bring in said vendor/seller and have them give their input, then it might be a good feature to have..

I think the best way to solve this is to NOT say anything negative about a vendor "publicly" on the forum, but if someone wants to know about a certain vendor, he/she could post a question to the forum and then get comments via personal messages.. If someone has had a bad experience with that vendor, then they could tell the enquiring person and go into detail as to why they had a bad experience..
Personally, I always check with friends/members about vendors before I buy from someone online I am not familiar with.. Just jumping on a "good deal" could leave yourself wide open to fraud/theft..

Re: Question about Vendor Service ??

I think we need to find some kind of happy medium between Gort's idea and Harry's last post.

Maybe something along the lines of a "Recommendation" thread where you can post a thumbs up or thumbs down (or stars or whatever) for a Vendor and if anyone has questions or wants details they can PM the member. Nobody gets trashed or praised publicly.

After that point it is up to the individual member to decide if he/she wants to order from that Vendor.

I know that recommendations on the old forum helped my find planes I was looking for and it helped me on this one to.

Ah, OK then... Boy some of the previous bounces between nasty, uptight hostility to well just plain odd!
I do agree that we MUST be very careful here (see: downfall of MH 1). It is VERY difficult for we 3rd party "listeners" to validate whether an irate customers view of a situation is valid or unreasonable.
Personally the more I think on this I am inclined to go with the concept of keeping it private as to a negative experience.
If a vendor has been praised in general I don’t think it reasonable to castigate the vendor publicly on this forum based on one persons input.
If a vendor has multiple cases like this, which come up, well we may have to open this discussion again as members.

Yeah, you’re probably right, Harry. In all fairness, admin would have to give vendors an equal opportunity to respond. And given human beings’ combustibility, this thing could conceivably ignite into a verbal firestorm, and everybody would lose.

Your idea is better, dang it! And I worked so hard on that post!!!

It is never too late to be what you might have been.

I agree Harry. One of the best features of this site is Private Messaging. It's really the best way to handle the negative stuff. Since this forum has started I've posted about 70 times. I've also emptied my PM box over 5 times. That's about 200 PMs. PM your way to happiness!

I hope that my firm opinions are not misinterpreted as attitude. It has not gone there for me at all.

Re: Question about Vendor Service ??

Maybe a complaint that hasn't been resolved should be sent to the forums moderators for some feedback or advice before posting. I suspect there wouldn't be that many anyway.

Some of the internet/ebay dealers don't help themselves by making you hunt through their websites trying to find an e-mail address or phone number so you can ask them a question.
