| F-4 Phantom II When people were sending me information for another project I noticed there were quite a few people who mentioned the F-4 Phantom II. I know the pooch has made what seems like a lot of F-4 so why is there still interest in new F-4s? I know they didn't make an "E" version I wonder why, is it too unpopular or what? If there were a new F-4 to be made what version would you like to see and why? For example, a certain squadron and series or a certain country, I'd like to know why people choose what they choose. This is strictly for my own personal curiosity, don't read anything into this. | |||||||||||||

| Re: F-4 Phantom II The pooch's F-4 is quite nice but it's way innacurate (and I do know all the reasons why). The thing that bothers me most is the missing fuel dump probe. How could a prominent detail like this could've been missed? See pic below. ![]() I would definitely like to have the 'E' variant - long nose Phantom with the 60 mm Vulcan cannon, and the one flown by Steven Ritchie! | |||||||||||||

| Re: F-4 Phantom II Being a major Phantom fan, I subscribe to the "you can never have too many options" theory :-). Corgi's got lots of 'em, sure, but I'd love to see a better effort -- a more detailed mold, even if the liveries are duped. That said, I think many of us here would love to see Cunningham's F-4, which Corgi had on the drawing board a year ago I think and then dropped -- before the scandal... and ditto fly's want list ;-) I'd love to see a Wild Weasel scheme in 1:72 -- I have one in 1:48 and it's awesome, but I prefer to collect jets in 1:72 due to space limitations. Not sure that answers any of your q's, but that's my take. | |||||||||||||

| Re: F-4 Phantom II For me it would have to be a F4K, would buy at least 2, Royal Navy and RAF versions, no thinking about it would have to be 3, I would like both the early green and grey and the later all grey RAF types. If I realy had he choice one would have to be 111 Sqd A/C. Would also like to see a Robin Olds F4E. | |||||||||||||

| Re: F-4 Phantom II IMHO, Corgi almost always makes a model with a UK slant to it (i.e. a British plane or one that was used by Britian). That's fine given that they are a British company and I will admit that they have done a good job expanding their aircraft range as of late. My guess is that Corgi went with the F-4C/D/J/N was they could get more play (RAF, USAF, USN) with that than a model of a Spey powered aircraft. We probably won't see an F-4E/F/G from Corgi because it would be a new mold and the variant was not in RAF/RN service. Personally, my favorite Phantom is the F-4E with a sharkmouth - just looks like a bad a$$ plane, loaded for bear. I think that an F-4E/F/G would be an ideal model for HM given the large number of operators (USAF, Germany, Greece, South Korea, Japan, Israel, Turkey) and the long service career the plane has enjoyed (Vietnam to today in Israel/Greece/Turkey). I think that done well in the right schemes, this model would be super successful. Here are a few suggestions: F-4E USAF Vietnam F-4E USAF Europe F-4G USAF Europe F-4E US ANG (Missouri ANG) F-4E USAF (4TFW/334 TFS Seymour-Johnson AFB) F-4F West German AF (more than one) F-4EJ (JSDF) F-4E Israeli AF F-4E Greek AF F-4E Turkish AF You get the idea.... I personally would have to by all the USAF variants (at a minimum). And for Pete's sake, don't forget all the ordinance!!!! | |||||||||||||
