Re: F-4 Phantom II

OOOOOH, that is the same Randy Duke Cunningham, I guess that sure would tarnish his reputation and drop him down a lot on the MR. Popularity chart.

Thanks for the help.

Re: F-4 Phantom II

IMHO, Corgi almost always makes a model with a UK slant to it (i.e. a British plane or one that was used by Britian). That's fine given that they are a British company and I will admit that they have done a good job expanding their aircraft range as of late. My guess is that Corgi went with the F-4C/D/J/N was they could get more play (RAF, USAF, USN) with that than a model of a Spey powered aircraft. We probably won't see an F-4E/F/G from Corgi because it would be a new mold and the variant was not in RAF/RN service.

Personally, my favorite Phantom is the F-4E with a sharkmouth - just looks like a bad a$$ plane, loaded for bear. I think that an F-4E/F/G would be an ideal model for HM given the large number of operators (USAF, Germany, Greece, South Korea, Japan, Israel, Turkey) and the long service career the plane has enjoyed (Vietnam to today in Israel/Greece/Turkey). I think that done well in the right schemes, this model would be super successful.

Here are a few suggestions:

F-4E USAF Vietnam
F-4E USAF Europe
F-4G USAF Europe
F-4E US ANG (Missouri ANG)
F-4E USAF (4TFW/334 TFS Seymour-Johnson AFB)
F-4F West German AF (more than one)
F-4EJ (JSDF)
F-4E Israeli AF
F-4E Greek AF
F-4E Turkish AF

You get the idea....

I personally would have to by all the USAF variants (at a minimum). And for Pete's sake, don't forget all the ordinance!!!!

Raven, all I can say is "God bless you son."

Re: F-4 Phantom II

Ritchie is first choice, then Wild Weasel. It would then be nice to have a F-105 Wild Weasel since then often flew with the Phantoms on missions in Nam.

Re: F-4 Phantom II

Showtime is a great looking F-4 Phantom and the camo ones as well.
I really like to see a F-4 Wild Weasel in 1/72.
I have seen these F-4's up close and they are one fine bird .

So the Duke isn't like Pete Rose he still is collectible? I figured the scandal would have put him in the toilet as far as being desirable. I agree with you when it comes to his military record, almost unbeatable but public appeal?? Is this the reason Corgi scratched making their edition of it and if so were they justified in doing so or was it a business mistake on their part? Do you really think Corgi could have sold 4,000 copies of his plane?

Re: F-4 Phantom II

What about the British version with the RR Spey engine FG.1 (F-4K) and FG.2 (F-4M). The plane had to be modified to handle the larger engine and larger air intakes were required. It also removed the narrowing section of the intakes when they made the air intakes bigger. This definitely would make it stand out in a group of F-4s. I think it would be a nice change from the other F-4s that were made by the pooch. What do you guys think?

I believe corgi scrapped the plans for the plane well before the scandal.

And you know the saying, all press is good press -- could make it sell better

FM makes it in 1:48 before the scandal, and far as I know they haven't stopped making it...
