Swastikas on Armor?

Just kind of curious, and pardon me if this is a dumb question, but we frequently talk about the lack of the swastika on some of the replica planes we buy, but why is it that almost none (or maybe all) of the German armor I've seen pics of, collect, etc., have no swastikas on them? Usually is was just the cross symbol, division markings, numbers, but no swazzis. Why did Germany not put the symbol on armor, but did on aircraft?

Re: Swastikas on Armor?

Early in the war they often used air recognition swastika flags on their tanks to prevent friendly fire.

True, but I still wonder why they never painted them on the hull like they did the cross?

Re: Swastikas on Armor?

The Luftwaffe was the pride of the Nazi party and one reason the aircraft wore the swastika on the tail even though 95% of German pilots weren't Nazi's.. The German balkenruze was a standard of the German army, and probably used primarily for ID purposes since the swastika could be confused with the Finnish national symbol..
