Don't forget this Thurs night on PBS

Thursday is going to be a great night for fighter pilot fans:

Secrets of the Dead: Dogfight Over Guadalcanal

The sixth season begins with a report on a WWII dogfight over Guadalcanal between Japan's Saburo Sakai and Navy pilot James Southerland. Sakai downed Southerland's plane, but the American bailed out successfully. Included: a trip to Guadalcanal.

Warplane: Airplane to Air Force; Air Force to Air Power

Debut: A two-part series examining the evolution of war aircraft. First up: the work of the Wright brothers, who eventually sold their creations to the U.S. military; the influence of the rotary engine on propulsion; and the impact of flight on WWI.

Check your local listings.

Secrets of the Dead shows are usually excellent. If they are up to their usual good work the Guadalcannal show should be very interesting.

I have been looking forward to this! Thanks for the reminder. I'm sure I would have missed it during my usual channel flipping adventures.

I am going to set my DVR.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: Don't forget this Thurs night on PBS

Sorry for the air date mess up, gents...but I just finished watching "Secrets of the Dead: Dogfight over Guadalcanal" tonight it was a great documentary! Got to see the author Henry Sakaida (I have his two books about the Japanese Army and Navy ACES IN THE PACIFIC published by OSPREY Books), and the dogfight recreation (NO CGI Fx like the History Channels) using the real McCoys - F-4F & Zero were just perfect! I can hardly wait for the next installment - The exploits of the 617 Squadron "Dam Busters" next week! Wooohoo!!!
