Re: Iron Maiden and the Battle of Britain

I have always been a metal fan and Iron Maiden is one of the best - fantastic harmonies and great double-lead guitar work. Aside from that, the have a considerable body of work derived from history. Steve Harris, the bass player and one of the principal song writers, is a history buff. Aces High, The Trooper, Alexander the Great, Run to the Hills, Gangland the list goes on and on with history being the subject matter for a fair amount of their material. Good stuff.

On a related note, the owner of Spirit of '76 (a diecast figures/models/art collectible shop) is Jon Schaffer who is the guitarist and principal song writer for Iced Earth - another metal band who is also a history nut. Their most recent release was a concept album about the Battle of Gettysburg - The Glorious Burden.

Good stuff, Parsig. Thanks for the link.

Re: Iron Maiden and the Battle of Britain

I got back in to Maiden a couple years ago after a friend of mine, who is a PHD in Economics, brought Alexander the Great to my attention as a lesson suggestion for my World History classes. He's also the lead guitar in a band. I'll have to check out The Trooper too and some of the others. Seems metal isn't just for burn-outs after all....
