Re: Irwin Dead

I just got the news. That is so sad. He was a crazy guy, a larger than life character and lived life to the full. A tragic loss.

Re: Irwin Dead

I didn't watch his show much and neither did the boy. But what he stood for was and is important.
I did however catch the show with the US Army Ranger School students, and it makes me laugh every time I think of it.
Half starved and tired Ranger students being labelled as the worlds most deadly, heck all those guys want are a bed and a meal.
Still I feel for his children and wife. I hope in some way she can keep the spirit alive and the children will understand he died doing what he loved. And that is something not everyone can say. The world is a sadder place today.

Re: Irwin Dead

That is a shame. I did not see him much, as we do not have cable, but he was an interesting character, seemed to love what he did (I think you'd have to love it, would'nt be able to otherwise). I just recently swam with rays in Hawaii, they seem to be very gentle, but I guess you just never know.

Re: Irwin Dead

My guess is he was swimming behind and slightly above a large ray in shallow water and the ray probably stopped and sucked the bottom and put it's tail up in a defensive posture. He (Mr. Irwin) most likely was unable to slow down as quickly and got stuck in the abdomen. Hardly a fatal wound except the one in a million jab to his heart. God can be pretty creative in the ways he chooses to take us away from here. Better this way than to crime or a car accident huh. I hope I go while dusting my models(in 60 years).

Re: Irwin Dead

It's really strange. It was only a few months ago I sad to my wife "I wouldn't be supprised to see a news story that Steve Irwin has been killed"! He really lived on the edge at times.

Re: Irwin Dead

I hate to see a guy go ever when he has young ones like that. Kinda neat the kids will have the shows though. Without that how many little kids are really gonna remember that much under 5 years old.

Think of the places he's been and things he did in the last 10 years.

Whata way to live and die.......

Re: Irwin Dead

A truly great ambassador for both his country and nature. He was a lot of things, but he was never boring. Crikey and godspeed Steve!

Re: Irwin Dead

It flicked its tail up and stabbed him in the chest as he swam over it from behind.
He pulled the barb out himself and that was the end of it, dragged onto a boat and given CPR whilst being raced to better medical aid, pronounced dead ~2 hours later.
Apparently the attack was filmed and his manager and close friend is calling for the footage to be destroyed.

I really liked him and have visited his excellent zoo.
I have to say it brought a tear to my eye and spoilt my 34th birthday no end
