Diecast regret(s) ?????

(Maybe we've discussed this before - but I'm not sure.)

What are your diecast regrets?

1) What model(s) did you wish you would have picked up when they were released, but never got around to picking up; and now they are nowhere to be found?

2) Anyone have that situation...then after obsessing over the model, paid WAY over list to eventually acquire it? If so, what model(s) and how high did you go?

Or this situation...
3) Never got around to picking up that model - model then became scare - you thought you would NEVER find it - only to later pick it up for a screaming deal? If so, what model(s)?

My answers -
1) Flying Mule FW 190. I think that was out just as I started to get into this hobby. I was really clueless on rarity and "models being sold out - never to return" was not even in my thinking at that stage.

2) After my daughter accidently totaled my Corgi 1:72 P-51 "Bunnie" - I sold off some of my collection and ordered TWO - one from Jubilies in Britian (about $49 U.S. shipped); AND in my obsession/paranoia, a second from Perry aircraft "on sale" for $67 shipped.

3) My first Corgi 1:72 P-51 "Bunnie" - after looking for months, I found it on Ebay and won the auction - for around $24 shipped. (Seller described the model as missing a couple parts - the wheel covers were actualy on the model and the box photo looked like they were missing.)

What are your diecast regrets?

1) What model(s) did you wish you would have picked up when they were released, but never got around to picking up; and now they are nowhere to be found?
I really wanted to get Corgi's Oh-7 B-25 and the "Strawberry Bitch" B-24. Now they are hard to find, they cost a lot, and since I've gotten other models to fill their niche in my collection, I don't really want them all that much anymore. Same applies to all Corgi's Spitfires and German planes - I've learned to live without.

2) Anyone have that situation...then after obsessing over the model, paid WAY over list to eventually acquire it? If so, what model(s) and how high did you go?
I desperately wanted a 1/72 Altaya Tony. I waited and waited until I finally cracked and got one on e-bay. Paid $35.00 plus $8.00 for shipping. Then 6 months later you could get them here for less. Then I bought a Corgi desert Fw-190. Paid $40.00 for it, got it, hated it, sold it (for a real loss)! Learned a lesson: good things come cheaper to those who wait. Applied this lesson towards all my Gemini Aces models - never bought the "buy them RIGHT now because soon they'll be gone" line. If I can't get it later, then I don't need it.

Or this situation...
3) Never got around to picking up that model - model then became scare - you thought you would NEVER find it - only to later pick it up for a screaming deal? If so, what model(s)?
Got the Corgi "Hun Hunter" P-51 for $19.99. Love the markings and the fact that it's still hard to find. Recently got "The Dragon and his Tail" B-24 for under $35.00. Lastly, always wanted a Corgi USAF F-4 Phantom II. Just got one for $20.00 - good pick up.

I too regret not buying a Betty when I had the chance.

I also regret sending my OH-7 B-25 back because of the weathering.

What are your diecast regrets?

1) What model(s) did you wish you would have picked up when they were released, but never got around to picking up; and now they are nowhere to be found?

...first release CW Jolly Rogers Tomcat in launch config.... d'oh!

2) Anyone have that situation...then after obsessing over the model, paid WAY over list to eventually acquire it? If so, what model(s) and how high did you go?

$45 for a Mcknight Hurri & $110 or so for a Tuck Spit... d'oh, d'oh! And $140 for a GMP texas longhorn... triple d'oh! Oh, and $150 for a SB lib... the list goes on I'm sure.

Or this situation...
3) Never got around to picking up that model - model then became scare - you thought you would NEVER find it - only to later pick it up for a screaming deal? If so, what model(s)?

$14 for a NGNG P-47... $150 for the BBMF set... $55 for Gmp Cripes A Mighty.... And I'll add a category: Deals you passed up and now kick yourself for -- mine would be stacks of MB B-17s at the first TM sale for $30 each (I already had one and left 'em.... now they are going for $180 on ebay... d'oh!)

Re: Diecast regret(s) ?????

I was in a Franklin Mint retail store in a local mall, circa 1998, and I was floored by the CDC Hellcat, all dark blue. My wife said "no..." I should have paid the $90 odd bucks.

I'd never seen or heard of diecasts before. I thought, "This is the future". I was blown away.

I'm still looking for a similar Hellcat, wife approval no longer required...
