Re: P-51 from 75FS/23FG

It's amazing, in the one book I have, this same exact pic is in there. It's attributed to W Hess. That's not your grandfather's name is it?

Anyways, it says it's equipped zero-length rocket tubes and was flown by Lt. Curtiss Mahanna. He scored three confirmed and three probable kills in the final months of the war, bagging an 'Oscar' and a 'Tojo' on 11 November 1944 and then another Ki-43 on 14 January 1945.

Another interesting note is that they have the words Iowa Belle displayed as being red. Would love to know if that is true or not.

Thanks for your service to our Country! Here is a pic from MustangsMustangs site, but they are P-51D's. Can I post your pic at a couple of forums to get more info. on the markings and colors, besides the black tail?

Sure, go ahead. I'd love to get more information if possible. Coincidentally, my grandfather's picture collection from the war also has a pic of 'Japeth', except at a different angle.
