Re: Effects of 'Flags of Our Fathers' on the Diecast Market

Oh, You just lost me. I don't give a s!@t about their point of view. I don't mean for that to sound worse than it does, but it is true. That would be like hearing the German's side of the holocaust.

Wow. Do you really think this or are you just joking. I love the history in all its forms. I would love to hear the Japanese perspective as well as German. These are historical facts and I would like to see the Japanese view. Comparing the Japanese defending Iwo Jimi to the Holocost is a little ignorant. They were soldiers who followed orders to defend that island against an invading army. Just because they lost, we can't ignore what happened and only view it from the US perspective.

I love Military history from all sides. I may not believe in what their leaders stood for, but I can admire the soldiers, tactics and machines of war of all involved. I would love a movie from the Japanese perspective as much as I like Das Boot (German) or Battle of Britian (English) or Saving Private Ryan (American)
I don't want to start an Argument or a debate. I just think we should be more open minded and view history from more than one perspective.

Re: Effects of 'Flags of Our Fathers' on the Diecast Market

I hear you, but what side do they really have. German side-mudered tons of people that didn't go with the Hitler movement, or were Jewish and handicapped. The japanese side-murdered millions, yes millions of Chinese, and the methods they used of fighting and tortutre are not even imaginable. I have talked to alot of WWII vets. I know that the people in some of these cases were not evil, but to the soldiers that fought and committed these acts, no I have no interest in hearing why they thought it was a good idea to operate an oven to cook other humans, or why the japanese thought that eating the livers of downed pilots was O.K. Band of Brothers said it best. "You were there, at the concentration camp, do you really think these guys are just soldiers like me and you?"

I have no problem what so ever hearing any one's side of the story, just as long as they weren't mass murdering f#$@heads. So that pretty much counts Germany and Japan out. I also don't want to start a fight, as I know that this could easily go into, but I have to be honest with you as well. These are just my feelings. I have an Uncle that survived a Japanese death march, so I may be biased.

If Clint Eastwood thinks Letters is worth making, I'm sure it will be worth your while to watch it. The man is not only a cultural icon, but a gifted storyteller. I'm sure Flags will be great too. I look forward to seeing them both.
As far as the impact the movie will have on the die-cast market? I think it would be highly unlikely that there will be any impact whatsoever. Flyboys had a better chance.

I do have to admit that if Clint Eastwood does it, that it will be done very tastefully. I don't mean to come off like a jerk in that last post, but I have rather strong feelings in the matter.

Re: Effects of 'Flags of Our Fathers' on the Diecast Market

How about we give Clint ideas for his next movie :

A remake of "A Bridge Too Far"! Just think of it -

Dirty Harry . . . in a P-47 . . . taking out the bridges of Madison County . . . . . .

Now there's a movie. "Make my day . . . Meryl Streep!"

"Nobody calls me Lebowski . . . I'm the duuude! And the dude abides."

A balanced perspective Merritec, I wholeheartedly concur with your sentiments .
