I used to collect diecast....

construction vehicles and tractors back in the early nineties. Well, I moved on to military related diecast, and totally forgot about the construction stuff.

Evidently, it grew up while I was gone. whether you collect it or not, you have to admit that's pretty impressive. It's a Bucyrus 495HF Mining Shovel by THW Models. This piece is 1/50th scale and retails for about 6 bills.

Re: I used to collect diecast....

Well if you like Construction vehicles you come a long way.
Warbirds are much better
I used to collect 1/24 Nascar Action RCCA diecast cars.
Still do but only my favorite driver Dale Jr.
After Big E died at Daytona in 2001 i sort of lost the touch with the Nascar stuff.
But i still have all my Dale Earnhardt Wrangler and Goodwrench cars.
There worth some bucks now too.....Their priceless to me
That Construction diecast must weight a ton.

Re: I used to collect diecast....

Some construction models I've seen are extremely detailed. I get the feeling that there is a bigger market for aircraft but perhaps I'm wrong on that.

Re: I used to collect diecast....

I also used to collect construction equipment together with military stuff, so I was a construction and destruction collector

I was mainly into the expensive Conrad and NZG stuff, there big cranes were my favs but I also bought some JOAL gear as it was so cheap. Now all I have left are a few low loaders to stick some tanks on.

Re: I used to collect diecast....

One thing that it illustrates is just how far diecast can be taken. It looks like the military aviation market has a way to go still.

26 inches long, 16 inches high, 12 inches wide, 25 lbs.
WOW, it looks great. How tall is it.

Re: I used to collect diecast....

That is cool. I still collect 1/18th scale muscle cars as well. THey are cool, and if I everhit the lottery, my car display case will look like my garage.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: I used to collect diecast....

I almost jumped into the construction diecast- you can get some really neat stuff these days. But, alas, I had to draw the line somewhere. But some of those dozers do look neat, and the inloaders, and the excavators.......

"Different strokes for different folks" as they say....and that's a pretty impressive construction diecast pic, Mr. Admin! I had a Civil Engineer friend who's into just that particular part of collecting. I remember seeing a sandbox style diorama in his office full of best made construction (and intricately detailed) vehicles you can imagine.
