East African VC-10

Most of the Gemini posts I see here concern real classic aircraft; however, the bulk of the firm's output since the late 90s has been airliners. On another forum that I joined several years ago, collectors never seem to tire of debating the merits of these planes, and their competitors.

Though Gemini Jets have their faults, one outstanding new issue is this East African Super VC-10. This firm ceased operating in 1977, at which time this color scheme was current.

Re: East African VC-10

Tone - Whilst I've a broad knowledge on aircraft, my interest has almost always leaned toward military stuff, both old & new.

I'm not clued in on Civil die-cast releases other than Corgi, where I recently put out a post, regarding the sad fate of the 'Preserved' V.C. 10 at Cosford near Birmingham, the subject of which, just happens to be their next planned release (G-ARVM).

Are other liveries available on this Gemini V.C. 10 ???????

(such as a B.O.A.C. etc.), as I intend on adding a 'Vicky 10' to my collection in the not too distant future.

You're advice welcomed........as that model looks good.

If you don't mind someone else jumping in Gemini has put out one other civil VC 10 to date- a BA livery. I'm sure over the next couple of months you will see others. Gemini lists the BA version as sold out on their web site but you can almost certainly still find them in dealer hands or at worst on Ebay.

Gemini has listed for release November/December an RAF VC 10.

Keep in mind these are 1/400 scale and thus quite a bit smaller than the Corgi releases. I've got about 50 airliners but no VC 10's yet. As with all diecast some of the moulds are better than others but the VC 10 seems to be pretty good.

Re: East African VC-10

I have 132 1/400 commercial models, 48 of which are GeminiJets, and recently received the BA version of the VC-10. The model has an articulated tailplane, and the first thing that caught my eye when opening the box was the gapping spaces where the tailplane and fin meet (or don't meet, in this case). Very disappointing.

Aeroclassics recently put out their own version of the VC-10 in a BA livery, as well as several BOAC liveries. All of these have sold out (at least I haven't found a vendor who hasn't sold out, and one BOAC version was recently selling on eBay for over $150). I don't think the Aeroclassics version had an articulated tail, and that may be why these models sold out vss. the GeminiJets version. (By the way, most of the Aeroclassics sold out BEFORE the release date--I totally missed getting any of them!!)

I recently ordered the RAF version of the VC-10, though that may be my last purchase of a GeminiJets VC-10 (it's that tail!). Even more exciting to me is the new GeminiJets release ordered with the RAF model, the BAe-146-200 (due 12/31) (see pic, below).

Generally, I like GeminiJets models, and recently received a knockout FedEx A380 from them (which I ordered because FedEx recently cancelled all orders for the A380--the model is sure to become a classic!)--that 1/400 model is about the size of a 1/72 Thunderbolt!

GeminiJet's 1/400 model price-to-value ratios are terrific, and the company rarely hits a clinker. However, I think the commercial-jet-collecting community has a bit of a snobbish attitude toward the company, largely because of their release quantities (usually about 2,000 units per release), and their (on average) lower prices.

(By the way, it would be nice to have a place we can calmly discuss these little commercial jobbies; I find most of the small-scale-model forums to be totally obnoxious if not down-right abusive!)
