Re: Received new Gemini Aces!

I received the first three GeminiAces models today together with a Corgi Sea Gladiator .

As regards, the GeminiAces Spitfire, Bf109 and P51B all I can say is that they have not only met but exceeded my expectations and I'll definitely be getting more . The Quality Control and finish of these are superb and out of three aircraft there are zero defects. Not only the props, but even the antennae are made of metal . The only minor issue is the stand for the P51B, which is not really compatible with the air scoop (as also mentioned by another forum member). They fit perfectly with the 109 and Spitfire though.

To be honest I think that GeminiAces and HobbyMaster () have totally changed the rules of the die-cast industry with new benchmarks for pricing, quality and innovation - it can only get better from here on .

[I'll refrain from commenting on the Sea Gladiator as it is a nice model that has been let down by some QC issues e.g. kink in rigging, engine cowl way too far forward (with exhaust separating from model) and glue on the propeller . I've successfully separated the cowl (gently) and forced it into the correct position and now have to glue the exhaust back into place.]

One sheep to rule them all ...

Re: Received new Gemini Aces!

Received all three GeminiAces today, and they are all very nice. However, the right tailplane of the P-51 broke off. Before I took the clear plastic top off the model, I noticed a lot of glue at the base of the tailplane. After I took the clear plastic off, I removed the certificate, which bumped the tailplane, which caused it to fall off. I haven't removed the plane from its velvet plastic holder, and of course won't. The glue was obviously applied after the plane was painted, because the paint was curdled up where the glue touched it.

Obviously, someone tried to reattached the tailplane after it was broken off right at its base. However, you can't do that no matter how strong the glue!

I contacted the vendor by email, and wonder if I should call in the morning to reserve another copy before they are sold out, or is that necessary?

For future reference, watch out for no. 1978 of 2000!

Re: Received new Gemini Aces!

Man I gotta have that P-51B! Another Spit or 109 doesn't really get my boxers in a bunch, but that '51 is definitely a must have. Now, diecast models are like Lay's 'tater chips to me- I cannot have just one. Wonder what else I'll have to get......

To finish the story, I contacted the vendor and they are sending a new copy. They also said that this is the only GeminiAces they've had a reported problem on, so GA's quality control is (as usual) very good.

What happened on this one, I can only guess. However, a few years ago, the local newspaper ran a commentary about accidents on the Interstate Bridge (on which I was once rear-ended) connecting Portland OR and Vancouver WA (where I live). The commentator said that cars came from miles around just to have an accident on the bridge. That's the way I feel about the models I receive: the defective ones are somehow marked in China with my name and address EVEN BEFORE I ORDER THEM. It seems to be some kind of Celtic Collectors Curse (the dreaded CCC).

Re: Received new Gemini Aces!

My quick $.02.

The Spit is the nicest 1:72 Spit I've seen, bar none. I really like this model and to think I almost passed on it because I had "enough spits"

The 109 is nice too, just not a huge 109 fan. The scheme is unique, and the detail and metal content are superb.

The P-51B seems like the weakest link to me, but it's still darn nice. (Though what is up with that antenna!) There are some kinks for Gemini to work out, but I do think these models are worth the price compared to the competition.

I like the stands, though like others have said it doesn't work with the Mustang very well due to the air scoop.

To me, they're sort of what I would expect to see if Dragon and Corgi merged

Yes, kind of like if Julia Roberts and Lyle Lovett would have had a child.

Ahh, right, so when it comes to the Gem mustang then, I see what you're saying. But with the others...

And at least that would be a step up for Corgi with the Mustang, right
