Re: Received new Gemini Aces!

Great pics! Now I REALLY can't wait to get mine. I think you're right Old Crow - it looks to me like they over painted the invasion stripes. Since they did not overspray with silver, O.D. was all they had at hand. Still looks great IMHO.

Now for the $64,000 question. Why did they bother to overpaint the invasion stripes?

Question Re: Received new Gemini Aces!

Thanks for the review and pics Old Crow. Any adjustment in your ratings after your semi-decent sleep and further review? I've ordered all three. Was all the hype justified?

Thanks for the pics and the review OC.. It looks like the rudder may need some help, or atleast snapped into place..

41/2 stars for the P-51B. Have not spent enough time with the other 2 yet. Will try to post pics later this weekend.

Was the hype justified? Probably not, except for the Mustang, simply because rarely does something live up to the hype. That said, these are sweet birds and I doubt many will be disappointed.

Now, when the rest of you get yours next week please remember these are just my personal opinions.

Re: Received new Gemini Aces!

Now for the $64,000 question. Why did they bother to overpaint the invasion stripes?

By July most units had already removed or over painted the upper wing and fuselage stripes to reduce visibility and on August 19 SHAEF (Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force) directed the removal of stripes from all wing surfaces between August 25 and September 10. Thhe remaining fuselage stripes were considered superfluous by early November and on December 6 SHAEF ordered the removal of all invasion stripes effective on New Years Day. Because of operations and The Battle of the Bulge it was some time before all stripes were removed.

Re: Received new Gemini Aces!

Far and away better than Corgi's efforts!...At least these tires have some tread on them...The main gear doors look to be a bit far back but I bet they can be pursuaded forward a bit.. At least they're long enough!....I might have to get this one...Thanks a lot, Crow!!

Re: Received new Gemini Aces!

O.K., folks, here are some pics of the JJ Spit. Pretty interesting engineering of the U/C- the chin scoop is molded as part of the whole assembly so it is sturdy and stays in place without any glue. Beware the tail wheel: I lost mine when opening, or maybe it wasn't there. My dealer is holding a replacement for me, however.

I also took a couple shots of the box. I'll try and get the 109 later.

Re: Received new Gemini Aces!

Love seeing the pictures. I don't have any of these on order as they don't really fit into my collecting pattern but I'm extremely interested in how Gemini stands up to the competition. I have a modest collection of 1/400 airliners with many Geminis represented. They are capable of excellent results but don't always get the details right. Sounds like just about all the die cast companies!

I look forward to the rivet counting that should commence next week.
