Re: Captured P-51B is answer to kaput

I'm not much into captured aircraft either, but I decided to go with this one just to have one captured aircraft in the collection just as an example that it happened. It got helped along by the nifty box, the cool story, and the quality of Gemini's modeling of the P-51B. There are several captured planes put out by MRC EasyModel and at least one by HobbyMaster, but none of 'em really thrilled me. But I thought, If I'm gonna get one captured plane, this oughta be the one. I've got a couple of captured tanks by Dragon, plus a number of planes made by one nation in the livery of other nations through lend-lease, etc., so I should probably have one captured baby. It'll sit there looking tough making all the nearby Me-109s look a little scared!

Same here. Thing is, there's only so much money, so you have to pick and choose if you decide to get a "mis-marked" plane. Another one I would have liked, but which is pretty much impossible now, is the Fw 190 with British markings -- if for no other reason than the great war story that goes behind its capture!

I have that Fw 190, good looking model.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Re: Captured P-51B is answer to kaput

The GA captured P-51B is a beaut, and the collector's card and snap-lid box are winners, too. I think we can safely say GA is here to stay...

Celtic,
Is the captured Mustang worth the extra bit of cash? I ask because I just spoke to a dealer with whom I had it preordered through and he said that he sent his shipment back due to a lack of quality. I want to be sure before I commit to this one (it's either this model or Corgi 1/32 Bf-109 "Red 6" which I found for about a total of $15 more when shipping is included than the captured Mustang).

Really can't answer...I loved the quality, but since the dealer didn't, there may be a problem I'm not aware of. I posted pictures on my web page, but pictures can be misleading. If you have doubts, maybe you should go for the 109 for a little more...

Captured fw190? Never seen it. Is it in 1:72?

Yes it's a corgi special edition for the UK collectors club. Looks absolutely fabulous. Here's a link:

Corgi Aviation Archive

If you can find it it's definitely worth getting. Not cheep though.

Not sure about this one though. To me it just doesn't look that good. I like captured birds as well have the HM stuka and the Corgi 190 and the both look great, but with this one I've just got no urge to pull the trigger.

Ooops!

I would go for the 109. That's a great bird, and for that price I think a good deal.

I could be very wrong on this (as this is a reduced production qty) but I think the mustang will be around for a while.

I went for the 109. Shipped it was just over $68. The Mustang would've ran me in the low $50s. I think for the extra cash, the 109 is where it's at.
