Re: WW2 fighters frozen now?

Andrew, I agree, but do wonder why GA got into 1/72 when they weren't willing to get in with both feet. It could be that they found the overhead a bit more than expected...

I wouldn't say that they didn't go in with both feet. They've released quite a few excellent models with the few moulds they have. And also, their previous models were limited numbers. But the latest batch was not limited from what I read on this forum and thus they have to keep making them I think. well, atleast make more than the usual 1000. But ofcourse, only GA can answer these questions. We can only speculate. And from the quality of their 3 war birds, I think we'll see some pretty decent stuff come out from them. Even if it might take a while.

Re: WW2 fighters frozen now?

We sure are a demanding lot, aren't we? Gemini has released six different paints each for the P-51B, MkIX and Bf-109, plus two special commissions (Princess Elizabeth and TA805). Every release has been better than the previous. They put the pilot on a diet, fixed the Spit's green, fixed the Mustang's antenna, added mirrors to the Mustang and Spit canopies and have shown us what a quality diecast is all about. Now they are working on finishing the A-1 and F-4, which are more complex models. I'm willing to let them do their job the way they see it needs to be done. I think we won't be disappointed. Plus a brief pause helps reduce current stock while building up hype for the next release.

I would sure like to see some more P-51Bs. Shangri-La comes to mind.

Re: WW2 fighters frozen now?

I haven't heard anything of the Spitfire Mk. I. I wonder if it was shelved?

We haven't heard that its shelved, but I think it would not be as complicated to develop as the A-1 or F-4 considering they already have a spitIX. It might come out around the same time as the other two.

I hope they do Shangrila and John Godfrey's P-51 together

TA805, was this a Spitfire? And the Mustang mirrors didn't come into play until P.E. and Hun Hunter. Still holding out for an Old Crow or Shangri La, maybe another Blue Noser.

Yes, TA805 is a MkIXe. Latest Commission

They are soon/now being shipped.

We seem to have gone from speculative discussion to an impression of general complaint.

I didn't mean to sound negative on GA, so if I did, I'm not. It's just that I like what they do, and only wish there were more.

Hi

I like the Gemini Aces, in act I have them all.

I'm not surprised that they have put a brake on the existing moulds. The word on the street is that sales have been rather disappointing, certainly in the UK.

I'd like to echo the Captain's sentiments also and welcome you to the forum Tempest. Your are correct - Gemini Aces makes great models. I have 6 including one Spitfire which is a plane I usually don't go for. I've got three Mustangs and two 109s (another plane I usually don't buy). The disappointing sales in the UK are a surprise as Spitfires and 109s are much sought best-sellers in the UK market. I've always understood that this hobby is really better established in the UK and the US market is not nearly as lucrative. My concern is that Gemini bet on a strong UK market and if it's not there, they are willing to give up. That's sad since their planes are really a good value. But the fact that they will produce a "Spey" engined F4 Phantom II rather than the US based versions shows me that they are still focusing & betting on the UK market. Let's hope Gemini decides to continue their 1/72 WWII line. I'd love to see what they could do with a FW190, Hurricane or Tempest and the P-47 or a really good early version P-38.
